After all these years, he was still only a D–rank member
His combat skills were average at best.
The only thing remotely useful about him was his youthful baby face, which often fooled comes underestimating him.
People in the organization liked to joke that he had been born to serve as bast
“It’s fine. The two of us are enough.”
Iris’s answer surprised him.
The man who had challenged Ares earlier clearly seemed restless and ambitious
If someone like that were allowed to lead a search team on his own problems were bound to arise.
Ares needed to keep that person close.
Iris knew that look all too well. It was the look of someone dissatisfied with authority. Someone who wanted to replace the person above them.
People like that couldn’t be trusted with independent command.
Of course, Birch had no idea what she was thinking.
He simply nodded and silently hoped they wouldn’t encounter a situation that required fighting.
And if they did…
He could only risk his life protecting her.
Meanwhile, Iris continued studying information on her phone about Fairytale Town, the children’s game whose title she’d found carved into the wall.
She said nothing more.
The two of them eventually arrived at the only arcade that had been selected to distribute the game’s bet version
The location wasn’t particularly busy.
However, it sat near several schools, and classes had just ended for the day.
Parents were bringing their children in to try the games.

If Emma hadn’t potentially been here, Iris probably would have turned around the moment she saw the
of people inside.
Then again…
A crowd like this was the perfect place to hide.
The first floor was a traditional arcade filled with standard game machines.
The second floor contained demo stations where visitors could test games like Fairytale Town and purchase console titles.
“So many people…” Birch stared helplessly at the crowd. “How are we supposed to find her?”
He usually enjoyed lively places. But surrounded by this many noisy children, even he was starting to get
headache.
“Let’s go inside first.” Iris frowned and scanned the room.
For Emma, this environment was certainly safer than the abandoned buildings in the eastern outskirts.
There were people everywhere.
Especially children.
So many that they resembled rows of potatoes packed tightly together in a garden.
Birch walked ahead to clear a path for her.
“Sorry. Excuse us. Sorry.”
As he gently squeezed through the crowd, he quickly realized how impossible the task seemed.
It was like searching for a needle in the ocean.
After only a few minutes, he nearly gave up.
This was ridiculously difficult.
Just as he was about to turn around and ask Iris what to do next, he noticed her carefully observing everyone around them.
So he swallowed his question.
“Let’s go upstairs.”
Birch was still trying to imitate her search method when she abruptly stopped.
“Huh?” He blinked.
Then realization dawned.

“Right. There are fewer people upstairs.”
“No.” Iris shook her head. “Emma isn’t on the first floor.”
Birch stared. “How do you know?”
Standing at the foot of the staircase, Iris glanced back over the crowd.”
“Because I’ve already checked everyone.”
“…What?” Birch’s jaw dropped. “Already?”
Iris nodded and started climbing the stairs. She didn’t need to see every face.
Many people could be ruled out by body type, height, hairstyle, or clothing alone.
Compared to the chaos downstairs, the second floor was significantly quieter.
Many parents with limited budgets avoided bringing their children up here.

The demos were free, but if a child fell in love with an expensive game, there was no guarantee the parents could afford it.
That usually ended with tears.
“My ears finally get a break.” Birch sighed in relief.
The children here still talked while playing, but most of it was harmless muttering as they focused on their
games.
The arcade owner had divided the floor into individual demo booths separated by curtains.
When an employee saw Iris and Birch arrive, he quickly approached.
“Welcome. Are you looking to buy games for your child today?”
“Of course.” The employee pointed down the hall. “Those are the demo booths. The curtains stay closed for privacy. Any unoccupied booth is available to try. If you need anything, I’ll be right over there.”
Birch reached for a curtain.

Beside him stood a man and a woman, presumably his parents.
The boy stuck out his tongue. “Really? Where are they? I don’t see them””
With a sharp swish, Iris pulled back the curtain.
“Sister Iris?”
For & moment, she thought she was unagining things.
