Chapter 265 The Loan
Chapter 265 The Loan
Emily Wolfe looked at Iris in confusion.
Iris remained completely calm.
“For the next four years, you’ll need to keep improving yourself.”
She set down her cup.

“At your current level, even if the Wolfe family were handed to you tomorrow, you wouldn’t be able to manage it.”
The assessment was blunt, but it wasn’t wrong.
After calming down and thinking it through carefully, Emily found herself agreeing.
Once they had finalized their partnership, the two finished another round of coffee before heading home separately.
When Iris arrived home, she found Vincent putting on his jacket as if he were about to leave.
“Going somewhere?”
He nodded.
“I have something to take care of.”
After a moment’s thought, he realized they hadn’t spent much time together lately.
“Want to come with me, Iris?”
“Where?”
“One of the companies under the Noir Group owes money.” Vincent adjusted his cuffs. “The owner took out loans using the company as collateral. We’re visiting the lending firm today.”
Iris was mentally reviewing her schedule when she happened to look up and meet Vincent’s eyes.
In many ways, he was a lot like her. His face rarely revealed much emotion. But his eyes always gave him
away.
“Sure.”
For the briefest moment, his eyes brightened. His expression remained composed, but Iris still noticed.
“Do you need me to do anything?”
Vincent sat beside her and gently patted her head.
“The snacks there are excellent. You should try them.”

Iris: “…”
This was the first time she’d ever heard of someone treating a debt collection visit as an opportunity for
afternoon tea.
The lending company wasn’t far from the Noir residence.
Technically it was a company, though in reality it occupied a converted floor inside an apartment Bedding
The drive took about thirty minutes.
The owner had rented an entire level and turned it into an office. A business like this didn’t require much
space anyway.
“Mr. Noir, welcome.”
Someone was already waiting outside the elevator.
The moment Vincent appeared, the man greeted him with excessive enthusiasm.
Vincent nodded and briefly rested a hand on Iris’s shoulder.
“This is my sister. Take her to the lounge and let her enjoy the refreshments. I’m going to speak with your manager.”
The man immediately understood.
Anyone important to Vincent was automatically important to him.
“Miss Noir is absolutely stunning!” He smiled broadly. “Right this way. You’ve come to the perfect place.”
While Vincent headed toward the manager’s office, Iris was escorted to a comfortable seating area.
“Our boss personally makes these snacks.”
The man proudly set a tray of beautifully crafted pastries in front of her.
A pot of tea soon followed.
“Mr: Noir has visited before and complimented them.” He lowered his voice conspiratorially. “To be honest, our boss learned pastry–making for his daughter. She’s his pride and joy. You can’t buy these anywhere else.”
The setup felt more like a traditional tea house than a lending office.
Iris picked up a flower–shaped pastry and took a bite.
Now she understood.
The snacks really were exceptional.

The man initially tried making conversation, but after a few exchanges he realized Iris wasn’t particulariy
talkative.
To his credit, he immediately stopped talking and quietly sat nearby.
“Please, just give us a few more days!”
A heated argument suddenly erupted from one of the nearby offices.
“Don’t come to the company and cause trouble! I’m begging you!”
Iris looked up.
The man beside her explained casually.
“Every day it’s the same story.” He shrugged. “People borrow money, then can’t repay it. When the deadline arrives, they cry and beg for extensions.”
His tone was unsympathetic.
“Funny how they never think about repayment when they’re, signing the loan documents.”
As Iris listened, the voices became increasingly familiar.
Bang!
An office door flew open.
It sounded as if two people had been shoved out forcefully.
A heavy impact followed.
Someone had clearly hit the wall.
A furious voice barked from inside.
“Same answer as before. Pay what you owe when it’s due. If you don’t have the money, don’t blame us for what happens next.”
Moments later, two figures emerged.
People Iris knew all too well.
They sat with their backs to her in the lobby.
“This is ridiculous!”
Samuel rubbed his forehead. One corner of his mouth was bruised and bleeding.

“These people don’t listen to reason! We already told them we’ll repay everything once business improves.
nd now they’re threatening to make scenes at the company!”
His voice rose.
“They’ve even contacted several of my friends! Those are influential socialites! Do they realize what this does to our reputation?”
“Would you keep your voice down?” Vanessa looked equally miserable.
Samuel had spent most of his life enjoying respect and status. He had never experienced humiliation like
this.
Vanessa folded her coat tighter around herself.
“This was your idea. The company couldn’t stay afloat, so we borrowed money.” Her expression darkened “We thought injecting capital would bring back the profits we had when Iris was still running things.”
Instead, every scandal and setback had pushed the company deeper into decline.
