Chapter 296 Olivia’s Inspiration
Iris rose from her seat.
“I’ll go first.”
She walked onto the stage with calm confidence and lifted her violin.
A brand–new melody flowed from her strings.
No one present had ever heard it before.
This piece was completely different from the one she had performed earlier.
Instead of intensity and adventure, it carried an elegant, refined atmosphere.
It sounded like something that might be played at a grand gala or formal banquet–graceful and sophisticated, yet never stiff or predictable.
Most importantly, it possessed the very quality the judges had repeatedly emphasized throughout the day.
Soul.
Natural inspiration.
The kind of artistic spark that couldn’t be taught.
When the final note faded, the audience sat frozen.
For a moment, everyone had forgotten to applaud.
The livestream chat, however, exploded.
“What kind of monster is this?!”
“How is her improvisation this good?”
“You’re telling me she wrote that in ten minutes?”
“Ten minutes? I can’t even finish one vacation homework problem in ten minutes.”
“That melody is beautiful. I already recorded it and I’m making it my ringtone.”
Many of the candidates in the audience had unconsciously closed their eyes while listening.
Expressions of pure enjoyment filled their faces.
Everyone except Olivia.
Turning her head, she noticed the look in Ethan’s eyes.

Chapter 296 Olivia’s Inspiration
Admiration.
Open admiration.
And it was directed entirely at Iris.
Her heart sank even further.
After bowing politely to the audience, Iris stepped off the stage.
Professor Park crossed her arms and stood.
“Contestant.” She looked directly at Olivia. “Your turn.”
Instinctively, Olivia looked toward Ethan for help.
For encouragement.
For reassurance.
But for the first time, he ignored her.
He offered no comforting smile.
No supportive words.
No attempt to rescue her.
With no other choice, she stood and slowly made her way to the stage.
To be fair, she did possess some basic violin training.
At the very least, she knew how to produce sound from the instrument.
She understood its general range.
Unfortunately, that was where her ability ended.
Playing a piece she had practiced repeatedly was one thing.
Playing something completely unfamiliar was another.
And composing?
She couldn’t compose at all.
During the ten–minute preparation period, she had tried writing down a few notes.
Then she discovered she had no idea how to connect them into an actual melody.
Even the random notes Iris had scribbled looked far more coherent than her own.

Chapter 296 Olivia’s Inspiration
The realization had only made her more anxious.
Now, standing beneath the bright stage lights, a strange thought entered her mind.
Maybe she was still the protagonist today.
After all, this was improvisation.
If she just played random notes confidently enough, maybe nobody would notice.
Besides, her goal was no longer victory.
She only needed to survive.
Taking a deep breath, Olivia finally began.
At first, she played cautiously.
Then, after realizing nobody had stopped her, she grew bolder.
Soon she was pressing whichever strings her fingers happened to land on.
The notes wandered aimlessly.
The melody lacked structure.
There was no clear direction.
A portion of the audience had still been rooting for her.
They listened hopefully.
That hope disappeared quickly.
People could tell the difference between improvisation and random noise.
The livestream reflected the shift immediately.
Compared to Iris’s performance, viewership dropped by nearly one–third.
The comments were brutal.
“What am I listening to?”
“Is this really improvisation?”
“It sounds like the kid next door who started violin lessons last week.”
After several agonizing minutes, Olivia finally lowered her bow.
The audience collectively experienced a phrase they had only heard before:

Then she said, “In that case, play the opening section again.”
The color immediately drained from Olivia’s face. She had been making everything up as she went alo
