For the first time in years, Mr. Liam stood a little taller.

At the previous exchange conferences, his team had never even been able to field a full ensemble. They couldn’t perform his original composition, and they’d become the laughingstock of several other national teams.
This year…
At last, they had enough members.
At last, they could perform the piece they had worked so hard to perfect.
The grand ballroom doors slowly opened.
Wearing matching association pins, Mr. Liam and his team entered together.
“So that’s it?”
“I thought they’d finally brought in some fresh talent.”
“They’re still the same people.”
“Wait”
“Didn’t they have fewer members before?”
“They’re finally at full strength.”
“And who’s that young girl walking beside Mr. Liam?”
People naturally noticed Iris.
The leaders of each delegation always walked at the front, and this unfamiliar young woman had been placed directly beside Mr. Liam.
Curious whispers spread throughout the hall.
‘Has Mr. Liam become desperate? Did he really recruit someone that young just to fill a spot?”
“Don’t be nervous, Iris.” Mr. Liam smiled. “This time, we’ll definitely perform successfully.”
He sounded confident…
But in truth, he was the nervous one.
He feared another accident.
Not everyone attending the conference wished the other countries well. There were plenty of people eager to sabotage the competition.
Just as he was about to reassure Iris again, he realized she looked far calmer than he did.

She seemed less like someone preparing for an international performance and more like someone casually out for a stroll.
Are young people nowadays always this relaxed?’-
A familiar face walked over.
“Mr. Liam.” The man smiled. “Is this young lady here to cheer you on? Or is she just filling out your roster?”
Mr. Liam immediately frowned.
“I don’t like the way you phrased that.” He glanced at the man. “She’s our trump card.”.
The man was briefly taken aback before laughing.
“Your trump card? Then I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.”
“It isn’t time yet.” Mr. Liam turned to the team. “Go look around for a while. We’ll gather back here before the performances begin.”
Everyone nodded and dispersed.
Although many people doubted their team, the conference also brought together old friends from around the world.
Some members went to greet acquaintances.
Others gathered in small groups near the banquet tables, chatting while enjoying drinks and desserts.
Iris would normally have been one of the latter…
But after Jane learned she would also be attending the violin conference, she convinced her husband to bring her along.
“Iris!”
Jane’s eyes immediately found her.
“You look gorgeous in that dress today!”
She happily walked over and kissed Iris on the cheek.
“You look beautiful too.”
One of Iris’s teammates suddenly recognized Jane.
“Excuse me… aren’t you the famous painter Jane? My sister absolutely loves your work!”
Jane smiled warmly. “I suppose so. But I don’t really think of myself as famous. I simply try to express what’s in my heart.”
“Could I have your autograph? My family would love it!”
“I’d like one too!”
“Me too!”

-Several more teammates quickly gathered around.
They had all heard of Jane’s reputation.
Patiently and cheerfully, Jane signed every autograph they requested.
After finishing a long stack of signatures, she rubbed her wrist and laughed.
“Let’s find somewhere quieter to talk.”
“Sure”

Finding quiet places was one of Iris’s specialties.
She led Jane to a secluded corner hidden behind a group of tall gentlemen chatting over glasses of wine.
From there, hardly anyone would even notice them.
“It’s finally peaceful.”
Both Jane and Iris preferred quiet surroundings. The moment they sat down, they visibly relaxed.
Jane tilted her head. “What made you decide to come with the Violin Association this time?”
“Mr. Liam invited me.”
“I figured.” Jane smiled knowingly. “I remember you never liking events like this. So seeing you here is still pretty surprising.”
She picked up a slice of cake from a nearby dessert table and handed it to Iris.
“Then I’ll be cheering for you later. I can’t wait to hear you perform.”
She had never actually heard Iris play the violin.
But she knew one thing.
