Jane grew anxious. “What is there to talk about? We’re only here to retrieve something today! We don’t want anything else, we’re not planning anything, so why are you separating us?”
Inside the office, the door clicked shut just as Iris walked in.
She remained perfectly calm, crossed the room, and sat down on the sofa opposite Mr. Long.
“What did you want to see me about?”
Mr. Long smiled warmly. “You’re quite impressive, young lady. You’ve won game after game tonight. That wasn’t just luck, was it?”
Iris met his gaze without flinching.
“What exactly are you trying to say? Just so we’re clear, I’m not interested in any of your other businesses. I only came to help my friend get her pocket watch back.”
Without warning. Mr. Long asked, “You know how to count cards, don’t you?”
A flicker of surprise crossed Iris’s eyes.
“So I was right.” He chuckled. “Is this your first time playing cards here? Or have you won like this plenty of times before?”
When iris didn’t answer, he simply continued, “Oh, that’s right. Your friend said this was your first visit.”
He leaned forward.
“Miss, how would you like to work for us? Name your price. I’ll pay you whatever you want, and I’ll even give you an exceptionally generous percentage.”
“I’m not interested.” Her tone remained indifferent. “I came for my friend’s pocket watch. Can I have it now?”
She casually glanced around the spacious office.
“Or do you expect me to search this empty room myself?”
The moment she had entered, she knew the missing pocket watch was only an excuse
The office was practically bare.
There was nothing here that looked remotely like something anyone had been searching for
“You should think this through.” Mr. Long inhaled slowly before speaking again. “If you refuse to work for us… you won’t be leaving this place alive.”
He deliberately glanced toward the door. “I’m afraid your friend will end up the same way.”
Iris didn’t seem the least bit intimidated. “So this is how you treat your guests? You force people to stay if they refuse your offer?”
Mr. Long smiled. “You stole something from our casino. I was willing to settle this peacefully, but it seems that’s no longer necessary.”

He waved toward the door. “Search her.”
Several subordinates entered.
He tilted his chin toward Iris.
“Search this young lady. I believe she’s carrying something that belongs to us.”
A strikingly beautiful woman stepped forward, sympathy flashing across her face.
“I’m sorry, miss. We need to search you.”
She herself had once been lured into this place the very same way.
Looking at Iris was like looking at her younger self.
Following Mr. Long’s instructions, she had intended to secretly slip an item into Iris’s pocket during the search.
Instead, her fingers brushed against a small box already inside Iris’s coat.
“Boss… she has a box here.”
Mr. Long froze. That wasn’t part of his plan. Had this woman actually taken something?
“Take it out.”
Even Iris looked puzzled.
Only when she saw the familiar box did she realize what it was.
It was the gift Celeste had given her.
“It’s mine,” Iris said calmly. “I didn’t steal anything from you.”
Mr. Long snorted. “I’ll be the judge of that.”
He opened the box without another word
The instant he saw what was inside, he froze.
“Boss?”
The woman stared at him in confusion. Could this girl actually be a seasoned thief? If so, perhaps her sympathy had been completely misplaced.
“Y-you…”
Iris looked at him. “What is it?”
Mr. Long slowly raised his head, staring at her in disbelief. “You… don’t know what this is?”
“A friend gave it to me.”
“A friend?” His voice rose immediately. “You’re friends with X? Where is she now?”

tris hadn’t expected Celeste’s jade token to have this kind of influence.
