Leaning against the side of his car, Ares immediately straightened his suit the moment he saw Iris walk out of the hotel.
He waited quietly for her to approach..
The instant Iris reached him, before she could even say hello, Ares stepped forward and wrapped her in a hug.
He buried his face against the crook of her neck and took a long, slow breath, as if inhaling the scent that belonged only to her. After several seconds, he finally let it out in a satisfied sigh.
Caught completely off guard by the sudden embrace, Iris froze.
But when he rested his head against her neck and drew that deep breath, it felt as though he were stealing every ounce of strength from her body.
Her knees nearly gave out beneath her.
“Recharge complete.” Ares’s low voice sounded above her head.
Heat instantly rushed to Iris’s ears before spreading across her cheeks.
For the first time in her life, she found herself unable to meet someone’s eyes.
Seeing her obvious embarrassment, Ares smiled to himself.
Reluctantly, he released her.
“Let’s go.”
Flustered, Iris hurried into the passenger seat.
Today, Ares was driving himself.
Julian wasn’t anywhere in sight.
It seemed Ares intended to attend tonight’s underground auction as an ordinary guest rather than as its boss.
Once Iris realized that, the blush on her face gradually faded.
She had just opened her mouth to speak when Ares let out a quiet sigh.
Confused, she turned toward him.
“Why are you sighing? Did something happen to Emma again?”
Recently, the only thing Ares ever seemed to worry about was Emma Barclay.
The thought immediately made iris anxious as well.
Ares glanced sideways at her.
For some reason, Iris felt that look carried both helplessness and a hint of grievance.

-People always call me emotionally clueless, Ares thought to himself. I wish they could see what a truly oblivious person looks like.
After a moment, he looked back at the road.
“Emma’s fine.”
He paused before adding,
“Is there anything you want tonight? Whatever catches your eye, I’ll buy it for you.”
Iris honestly couldn’t understand how a man’s mind worked. His mood seemed to change every other minute.
Still, if he was saying that, tonight’s auction was probably going to feature some interesting items.
That alone piqued her curiosity.
After driving for a while, Iris noticed they weren’t taking the same route as before.
“Aren’t we going to the underground casino?” she asked. “This isn’t the road to the club.”
She watched him intently.
Ares couldn’t help but smile. “The route your friends took last time-the one through the club-is the only entrance ordinary people know about.”
“But that’s not where we’re going today.”
“This entrance is reserved for guests who prefer not to reveal their identities.”
After thinking for a moment, Iris interrupted him.
“Then when you investigated everyone who entered the casino before… are you sure no one was missed?”
Ares chuckled.
‘What a clever little cat.’
“This route simply hides visitors’ identities from everyone else,” he explained. “I can still access their information. It’s just kept
confidential.”
“People entering through this entrance don’t need to register or verify their identities every time. They’ve all earned that privilege through their own achievements in the underground casino.”
“Once they reach a certain level, their information is permanently entered into the casino’s database. The next time they arrive, all they have to do is scan their credentials at the entrance.”
“If they’re bringing a guest, that person’s information has to be submitted to management beforehand. Only after it’s been verified are they allowed in.”
Listening to him, Iris couldn’t help admiring his business sense.
He had managed to accommodate people’s desire for privacy while simultaneously maintaining complete control over everyone who entered.

Ares remained perfectly stilt, as if his only role tonight was to bring Iris here. He made no attempt to influence her decision.
Watching him, Iris quickly understood.
He had probably guessed something.
He was using tonight to confirm his suspicions.
Unfortunately, she truly needed the item being auctioned.
After giving away her last sample, she hadn’t developed a replacement yet. No matter what, this medicinal catalyst had to be hers.
She looked at Ares.
“What does this mean, Mr. Barclay?”
Ares met her gaze.
The moment their eyes locked, he knew she had figured something out.
That unspoken understanding only strengthened his resolve.
He wanted Iris-not just by his side, but to trust him completely.
“I think,” he said softly, “you already know the answer.”
Then he turned toward the auction stage and casually raised a hand.
The attendant beside him immediately lifted the bidding paddle.
“One million.”
The auctioneer froze.
He had expected this tiny bottle to sell at the starting price, if it sold at all.
Instead, the opening bid had doubled the reserve price.
The entire auction hall fell silent.
Who would spend a million on what was practically a single-use item?
Everyone instinctively looked toward the private suites on the second floor.
Those rooms weren’t reserved merely for the wealthy.
Only people with extraordinary influence could occupy them.
Many bidders immediately abandoned any thoughts of competing.
On one hand, they didn’t want to offend whoever was inside that suite. A person willing to open with such an aggressive bid clearly
