Ethan took one look at how she was dressed and instinctively tried to drive her
away.
“Only contestants are allowed back here.”
Iris couldn’t be bothered arguing with him. She walked inside, placed the gift box on a table, and spoke to one of the staff members.
“This is for Darius.”
The staff member opened a registration notebook.
“Of course. May I have your name?”
“Iris.”
The moment Ethan heard her name, he spun around in his chair and stared at her.
Why was Iris here?
And dressed like that?

Had she sneaked in somehow?
Over the past few months, Olivia had spent plenty of time badmouthing Iris in front of him. Besides claiming that Iris constantly harassed her and
misunderstood her good intentions, Olivia had painted her as a poor girl from a struggling family who flirted with men everywhere she went in hopes of marrying into wealth.
So she came here to get close to Darius?
The Lane family wasn’t particularly influential in Capital, but they were extremely wealthy. For an ordinary woman like Iris, getting involved with Darius would be enough to secure a comfortable life.

What a disgusting woman.
After setting down the gift, Iris turned to leave.

Darius was clingier than superglue. If he found out she had come, there was no way she’d be able to leave anytime soon.
She had only taken a few steps when she heard a mocking snort from Ethan’s direction.
“What are you snorting for?”
To begin with, Iris wasn’t in the best mood today.
Although Darius’s performance had received plenty of praise during the competition, she had noticed several sections where the emotional delivery was completely off.
Ethan hadn’t expected her to turn around and confront him. He let out a disdainful laugh.
“I just think some people are not only ungrateful but completely shameless. The moment they see someone rich and powerful, they start throwing themselves at them. Not even a freshman is safe.”
“So that’s all that’s in your head?”
Iris glanced at the contestant number pinned to his chest after sensing the hostility radiating from him.
“No wonder you didn’t place.”
Number Three.
If she remembered correctly, he hadn’t even made the top three.
She had listened to his composition earlier.
Three words summed it up perfectly:

A complete mess.
Ethan pointed at her, trembling with rage.

“You-! You’re just someone the Sutton family threw out! What would you know? What gives you the right to talk to me like that?”
He turned to the staff.
“What are you standing around for? Outsiders aren’t allowed backstage, are they? Throw her out-and throw her stuff out with her!”
The staff member looked torn.
After weighing the situation, he decided it was safer to side with Ethan. Walking toward the table, he reached for the gift box.
“Teacher!”
A young man’s voice suddenly rang out from the backstage entrance.
Under the bright lights, Darius recognized Iris immediately.
His eyes lit up, and he rushed over.
“Teacher! I thought you weren’t coming!”
Iris skillfully stepped aside before he could pounce on her.
“Uncle Liam is your Teacher. He’s recovering from an illness and asked me to help review your piece.”
Darius didn’t care about the distinction.
The six-foot-tall young man grabbed her arm and refused to let go.
“But you helped me with my music too! That makes you half a Teacher!”
“If that’s what your playing sounds like after my guidance, then I definitely don’t

Watching the two bicker back and forth with obvious familiarity, Ethan’s expression darkened.

He might be the son of Kingsley’s mayor, but compared to the Lane family, he was insignificant.
Darius suddenly noticed the staff member holding a gift bag.
“What’s that?”
“Uncle Liam asked me to deliver it. Part of it is from me too,” Iris replied casually. “It almost got thrown out just now.”
Ethan was already thinking about slipping away, but Iris clearly wasn’t planning to let him off so easily.
She briefly explained what had happened.
Darius immediately exploded.
“Who the hell are you?” he barked at Ethan. “How dare you throw away a gift she brought for me?”
Then Iris added calmly,
“He also said I came here to seduce you.”
Before Ethan could stop her, Darius’s face turned red with fury.
Without another word, he punched Ethan square in the chest.
“What nonsense are you spouting?! How can anyone make up rumors like that? Iris isn’t that kind of person!”
Darius was surprisingly strong.
The punch sent Ethan stumbling backward into his chair, his chest throbbing with

pain as dizziness washed over him.
Before he could even speak, Darius landed another punch.
Then he grabbed Ethan by the collar and shook him repeatedly.
“And who do you think I am? As if I’d be worthy of her!”
“This is Teacher Liam’s precious treasure we’re talking about!”

“What kind of grown man has a tongue this loose? If this rumor gets out, Teacher Liam will beat me to death!”
Iris sighed helplessly.
Sometimes she felt that apart from his extraordinary talent for the violin, Darius was hopelessly single-minded.
The staff hurried over and separated the two.
Ethan was beaten badly enough that he nearly coughed up blood.
As he lay sprawled on the floor, staring blankly at the warm yellow lights overhead, he suddenly remembered the words Darius had spoken on stage earlier.
Could it be true?
Had Iris really helped revise that composition?
She could write violin music?
But hadn’t Olivia said she knew absolutely nothing about musical instruments…?
“You keep going if you want. I need to leave.”
Iris had never intended to stay long anyway.
After making sure Darius hadn’t been hurt and had vented enough of his anger, she headed out.
