Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend (Iris Sutton) novel Chapter 6

Director Hayes saw it too, though he looked far calmer.

Given her skill, she deserved that price.

“The patient needs a light diet during recovery,” Iris said calmly. “No cold food or drinks. And for the first three days after waking up, someone must remain beside her bed at all times.”

Julian carefully memorized every instruction.

Nothing involving the Barclay family could afford mistakes.

Ares lowered his gaze to check the time on his wristwatch.

Iris noticed the dark brown leather strap and the subtle initials engraved near the dial—FR—with a tiny black marking beside them.

Ferran.

One of the world’s top luxury watch brands and a symbol of status.

Ares followed her gaze and assumed she was interested in the watch.

It had been his late sister’s final birthday gift to him.

Even after being damaged in a car accident and permanently running two minutes slow, he had never considered replacing it or sending it back for repairs.

To his surprise, Iris walked directly toward him.

Her pale fingers tapped lightly against the watch face twice.

Knock. Knock.

The watch beeped softly before a hidden system interface appeared automatically on the screen.

Julian reacted instantly and stepped between them.

“Sorry, Miss Sutton,” he said politely. “This watch was a gift from Mr. Barclay’s family. It’s extremely meaningful to him, so we can’t give it away.”

Iris stared at him speechlessly.

Then she pulled a small box from her pocket and shoved it into his hands.

Looking at Ares, she said evenly, “That’s Ferran’s newest quartz oscillator. Replace the old one with it, and the watch will function normally again.”

The watch had likely suffered magnetic displacement after the collision.

And Ferran quartz oscillators each used proprietary manufacturing techniques.

The one she handed him was the company’s newest prototype—delivered to her only yesterday for testing before official production.

Ares opened the box and immediately recognized it as an authentic Ferran component.

His eyebrow lifted slightly as he looked at Iris again, his interest clearly deepening.

Young.

Talented.

Far more interesting than expected.

But he was anxious to see his niece, so he said nothing further and headed toward the hospital room with Julian.

The moment Ares left, Director Hayes finally relaxed, his tense shoulders slumping in relief.

“Should I walk you out, Iris?”

She shook her head.

“There’s still one more thing.”

Then she turned toward Dr. Lang.

Iris stopped directly in front of him.

“Dr. Lang,” Iris said calmly, “didn’t you swear on your career earlier that your diagnosis was correct?”

The reminder instantly dragged Director Hayes’s attention back to the earlier confrontation.

His expression darkened immediately.

Before he could speak, Dr. Lang suddenly let out a harsh laugh.

“So what if I made one mistake?” he snapped bitterly. “Everyone knows what’s really going on here.”

The hallway instantly fell silent.

Director Hayes frowned sharply.

“What do you mean by that?”

Dr. Lang’s eyes were bloodshot with humiliation.

“You suddenly appeared and sided with her the moment you arrived,” he said coldly. “You even handed the entire surgery over to a twenty years old girl in front of the whole department.”

His voice became more mocking.

“And now everyone’s acting like she’s some miraculous genius doctor?”

He let out another sneer.

“Director Hayes, are you really doing this for the patient…”

“…or are you just helping Iris build her reputation?”

Several doctors inhaled sharply.

Others stared at Dr. Lang in disbelief.

Nobody had expected him to say something this outrageous publicly.

Director Hayes’s face turned completely black.
