Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend (Iris Sutton) novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9 Oldest Friend

Chapter 9 Oldest Friend

Iris couldn’t help smiling.

“Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Dad.”

Richard waved dismissively.

“You’re family. Money is the least important thing.”

The Noir family was worth billions.

To them, this was pocket change.

Iris accepted it without argument.

That seemed to make both of them even happier.

For the next hour, Eleanor asked countless questions, trying to learn everything she could about her daughter.

Outside the front door, Chloe froze.

She had just returned home carrying gifts for Richard and Eleanor.

Unfortunately, she arrived in time to hear Richard say:

“What’s ours is yours.”

Her fingers tightened around the strap of her designer handbag.

Five hundred thousand.

Seven hundred thousand.

Just like that.

Her parents had never given her that much spending money for a birthday.

Chloe forced herself to take several deep breaths before entering.

“Mom! Dad! I’m back! I brought dessert!”

Richard and Eleanor looked up.

Seeing her sweet smile, they welcomed her inside.

Chloe had purchased desserts from Sweet Harmony, one of the Capital City’s most famous pastry shops.

Before she could even present them properly. Eleanor took the bag and handed it directly to Iris.

Perfect timing. Iris said she was hungry.”

She opened the box and offered it to her daughter.

Try one. They’re amazing.”

Iris selected a rose pastry.

The flaky crust melted in her mouth, followed by a delicate floral sweetness.

“It’s good.”

The dessert box fit naturally into the family gathering.

Chloe didn’t.

For the first time in years, Richard and Eleanor’s attention wasn’t centered on her.

Every conversation revolved around Iris.

After making sure Iris had eaten enough, Richard urged her upstairs to rest.

Only after she left did he notice the disappointment lingering on Chloe’s face.

His expression softened.

Walking over, he sat beside her and gently patted her head.

“Chloe, Iris is our biological daughter. We just got her back after eighteen years. Naturally, we’re going to focus on her for a while.”

His voice was gentle.

“But nothing has changed between us. We still care about you just as much.”

Chloe forced a smile.

“I understand.”

Richard looked relieved.

What a mature daughter.

He couldn’t have been more wrong.

The moment Chloe returned to her room and shut the door, her expression darkened.

Her parents were clearly favoring that country girl.

But this wasn’t the right time to fight.

The next morning, breakfast covered nearly the entire dining table.

Since Eleanor didn’t know Iris’s preferences, she had ordered the kitchen staff to prepare a little of everything.

After finishing breakfast, Iris set down her fork.

“Dad. I’m meeting a friend today.”

Richard nodded immediately.

“Of course. Go have fun.”

Then he grinned.

“And whenever you feel like spending time with your old parents, your mother and I are available twenty- four hours a day.”

He had secretly worried that Iris might be too reserved to have many friends.

Knowing she had a social life was reassuring.

Meanwhile, at St. Grace Medical Center.

Ares Barclay’s niece had been transferred to a VIP suite early that morning.

The doctors had already completed their examinations and were pleased with her recovery.

After hearing the report, Ares entered the room.

Julian followed behind carrying breakfast.

“How are you feeling today, Miss Barclay?” Julian asked.

The little girl closed the storybook in her lap.

“Much better. Did you bring anything good to eat?”

Ares sat beside her and ruffled her hair.

“A specialist’s assistant is flying in from overseas later today. We’ll have him examine you as well.”

His niece pouted dramatically.

“You told me there wasn’t anyone here who could save me. I really thought I was going to die yesterday.”

Julian opened the food containers while laughing.

“Actually, you were saved by a pretty incredible young woman.”

“Everyone thought you had a heart condition and wanted emergency surgery. She was the only person who disagreed.”

Julian shook his head in admiration.

“She identified the real illness and performed the operation herself.”

The little girl gasped. “Really? Is she pretty?”

Julian considered the question. “Very.”

Then she asked the far more important one.

“Would she look good with Uncle Ares?”

Julian nearly choked.

“That’s… not a question I’m qualified to answer.”

A faint smile appeared on Ares’s lips.

“Would you like to meet her?”

His niece blinked.

Before she could answer, Ares continued calmly:

Julian, get her contact information from Director Hayes.”

The little girl stared.

She hadn’t even said yes yet.

Had her uncle just asked and answered his own question?

Outside St. Grace Medical Center, Iris spotted a familiar figure waiting near the entrance.

Xavier Hayes.

Director Hayes’s son.

One of her oldest friends.

He had just returned from overseas.

The Noir family car had already stopped right beside him, yet he remained oblivious, staring at his phone while recording a voice message.
