Chapter 365 A Quiet Villa at Night
Under the cover of night, Mary drove Viola to a secluded villa.

The car slowed to a stop. Mary rolled down the window and looked at the tastefully finished house ahead of them. Her tone was flat and calm. “You’ll live here from now on.”
Viola shook her head lightly. “That’s not necessary. I don’t deserve a place this nice.”
Her voice was soft. “I’ve already done so many things wrong and caused trouble for you and the Guzmans. As long as I have somewhere to stay, that’s enough. I really don’t need this…”
“If I tell you to live here, then you’ll live here,” Mary cut her off. Her voice was cold, leaving no room for discussion.
Viola bit her lip, her expression dimming. “You’re being really harsh with me now.”
She lowered her head, her fingers twisting the hem of her clothes, looking small and wronged. “I suppose it makes sense. After all, I’m not your daughter anymore. It’s only right that you’re harsh with me.”
Mary turned to look at her, her gaze complicated.
After a few seconds of silence, she spoke again, her voice still distant. “I’m letting you stay here because you saved my life. Don’t read anything else into it.”
She paused, then made herself clear. “Noelle is my daughter. Of course I’ll treat her better. I hope you understand that.”
“I understand.” Viola’s voice was so quiet it was barely audible.
An awkward silence settled between them.
Mary pushed open the car door to leave, but Viola suddenly reached out and caught her sleeve.
“What is it now?” Mary turned back, her expression unchanged.
Viola released her hand. “Mom… no, Mrs. Guzman. Please sit for a moment. Your arm is scraped.”
Mary froze. Only then did she notice a small scrape on her forearm, an injury from when she’d been knocked down earlier.
She hadn’t paid it any attention.
Viola had already taken out a small bottle of ointment and a few bandages from her purse.
“Let me take care of it. It’ll only take a moment,” Viola said as she gently pulled up Mary’s sleeve.
Mary instinctively wanted to pull her arm back, but when she saw Viola’s focused profile, she stopped resisting and let her do it.
The cool ointment touched her skin. As Viola applied it, she gently blew on the wound, careful not to hurt her.
That look of concentration, those careful movements… It was a kind of tenderness Mary had never felt from Noelle.
Ever since Noelle came back, she’d been distant and cold, never once this considerate.
A strange feeling rose in Mary’s chest.

She turned her head away, afraid to look at Viola’s serious face any longer.

“That’s enough. Go inside,” Mary said stiffly as she pulled her arm back. “This place is very secluded. Almost no one knows about it, so you can stay here without worry. I’ll also arrange for a few people to take care of your daily needs
Viola gave a soft “Mm” and got out of the car. She didn’t go into the villa right away. Instead, she looked back at Mary. “Will you come see me again?”
Mary took a deep breath. “Unless there’s something important, I won’t be coming. I’m going back now.”
She quickly told the driver to leave. What she didn’t notice was that the moment the car drove away, the weak expression on Viola’s face vanished. She watched Mary’s car disappear down the road, the corner of her lips slowly curving upward.
Without comparison, there’s no contrast. In front of Mary, Noelle was always cold and inconsiderate, and would constantly argue with her. So Viola chose to be endlessly gentle and attentive instead. And sure enough, Mary had taken the bait.
She stared ahead in silence, her thoughts cold and deliberate. Noelle, just wait. She would take everything she cared about most. The motherly love she’d finally reclaimed, she would strip it away, piece by piece.
