Chapter 379 Malicious Slander
Then, she read the filthy comments–and her vision swam. Anger slammed into her so hard she felt her blood pressure solve.
“Dad! Look at this! Just look!”
She shoved her phone in front of Angus, her voice shrill enough to cut. “Didn’t I tell you? I told you not to let her stay with Sebastian, and she wouldn’t listen! And now look–this mess is everywhere! The entire internet is laughing at us! The Guzmand name is being dragged through the mud! Hanging around someone who… who brings people to storm his grandfather’s home- what kind of reputation do you think she’ll have?!”
Angus watched the video with a deep frown. He didn’t love how explosive it looked either–too loud, too public–but he knew what had actually happened. “Calm down. Didn’t we talk about this last night? They went to save someone. Mr. Theodore was poisoned Sebastian rushed in to save his grandfather. It was urgent–of course, things got intense. Once the truth comes out, it’ll blow over
“Once the truth comes out? How do you explain this?”
Mary wouldn’t hear it. “Even if they had a reason, couldn’t they have done it quietly? Did they have to make a spectacle? The whole internet saw it! You think an ‘explanation‘ will make people believe her? It’ll only make it worse! And I’m telling you–she’s been led astray by Sebastian. Back in that little town she grew up in, she was fine. Now, she comes back here and all she learns are cheap, tacky tricks!”
Her bias against Sebastian ran bone–deep, and it spilled over onto Noelle, too–the same Noelle who’d stood by him and even gotten involved.
Angus opened his mouth to argue again, but Mary was already on her feet, furious. “I’m leaving. I can’t stand looking at this.”
“Where are you going?” Angus asked. “Aren’t you going to check on Noelle? She must be exhausted after last night.”
Her steps faltered.
Just then, her phone chimed. A message from Viola popped up, “Mom, are you free today? I made you an electrolyte drink to calm your nerves. You must’ve been terrified last night… I want to see you–just for a little while.”
Mary stared at the words, and the resentment inside her swelled all over again.
Noelle only ever made her angry–while Viola was always this considerate, always this sweet…
“I have something to do!”
She tossed out the words, grabbed her purse, and stormed out without looking back–she was going to see Noelle.
Angus watched her go and let out a helpless sigh.
The Flynn Residence.
Claire had seen the viral videos and the heated discussions, too.
“Heh. So, Ms. Charlotte of the Guzmans isn’t exactly well–behaved either.”
Her tone was soft, but the judgment was razor–sharp. “Running around with someone as notorious as Sebastian–someone who would even lead a crowd to attack his grandfather’s home–and getting caught on camera like that? Shameless. But, of course… she’s a recently ‘found‘ daughter. No class.”

Veronica and Hailey were supposed to be confined to their rooms, reflecting on their mistakes–but gossip was stronger than discipline. They snuck to Claire’s door, pressed their ears close, and tried to peek in. “Claire, what video? What does the Guzman eldest daughter look like? Show us!”
Claire’s face hardened. She snapped the tablet facedown on the desk and whirled on them. “Who told you you could come out? Go back and reflect properly. Your phones–hand them over.”
Veronica and Hailey flinched, quickly surrendered the phones they’d been hiding, and scurried back to their rooms in humiliation.
Hailey still wasn’t satisfied. Gripping the doorframe, she asked in a small voice, “Claire… that arranged meeting with Mr. Jonathan… when is it, exactly?”
At that, Claire’s expression finally eased. “Soon. This weekend.”
“I don’t like the way Ms. Charlotte carries herself, but she’s still Jonathan’s sister. The gift has to be carefully chosen. I’ve heard he dotes on her–if I keep her happy, it’ll only help me once I marry into the Guzmans.”
Hailey’s eyes lit up, as if she could already see the future: her sister climbing into the Guzman family–and Noelle, the girl who’d humiliated them, finally ground beneath their heel.
She nodded so fast she looked breathless.
“Claire, you’ll do it! We believe in you! You’ll definitely become the Guzmans‘ future lady of the house!”
Meanwhile.
