The girl wore sunglasses, her hair styled in glamorous waves, high heels clicking against the ground, while jewelry sparked all over her body.

She removed her sunglasses and swept her gaze around the area. Her eyes paused on the cargo tricycle for one second before her lips curled faintly in disdain, and she looked away.

“What a dump. They can’t even build a decent road here.” She brushed dust off her dress and spoke to the bodyguards behind her “Go hand in the recommendation letter.”

The bodyguard acknowledged her and jogged toward the registration table.

Lucas stared at the BMW for two seconds in silence.

‘No, seriously, it’s just an old-model BMW. What’s she acting so proud for?”

He genuinely didn’t understand.

A mah waiting nearby leaned over and lowered his voice. “Don’t mess with that woman. She’s from the Duncans, one of the Four Great Families. If you offend her, you probably won’t even make it into the trials.”

Lucas raised a brow. “The Duncans?”

The man nodded. “That’s the Duncans’ eldest daughter, Shirley. Her temper’s awful. Nobody dares provoke her.””

Lucas let out an “Oh,” and said nothing more, though his eyes narrowed slightly.

Noelle had already walked toward the registration area with the recommendation letter.

The registration area was a long table staffed by several young people wearing matching uniforms with Nightfall Circle badges pinned to their chests.

Long lines stretched in front of them. Those with recommendation letters stood in one line, while those without were directed into another line that twisted so far away that its end couldn’t even be seen.

Woelle handed over the letter.

The registrar was a round-faced young man. He opened the envelope, glanced over the contents, then looked up at Noelle his face

ingering on her dusty clothes for a second before lowering his head to start writing.

“Recommended by the Covingtons. First trial waived. Cable car access approved.” He handed Noelle a wooden token engraved with a number “Take this and wait by the cable cars.”

Noelle accepted the token and nodded.

Shirley had already finished registering. Her recommendation letter came directly from the Duncans and was twice as truck as the Covingtons’ version, complete with gold trimmed edges on the envelope

As she passed by Noelle, she glanced at the plain wooden token in her hand and curled her lips slightly

“The Covingtons?” She laughed softly, her voice just loud enough for everyone nearby to hear “Since when can some small time families like that recommend people too? Has the Nightfall Circle lowered its standards this much?”

The two bodyguards behind her chuckled as well, their eyes sweeping over Noelle with arrogant scrutiny.

Lucas stood nearby with the same lazy smile on his face, but his eyes had already turned cold.

He stepped forward only for Jasper to stop him with a hand on his shoulder.

Noelle didn’t even look at Shirley. She simply turned and walked toward the cable car station.

Lucas followed after her and muttered quietly, “Noey, that woman needs to get put in her place.”

Noelle said nothing.

From behind them, Jasper replied calmly, “She’ll get her chance.”

The cable cars lined up neatly at the foot of the mountain, suspended from the steel cables in a long, orderly row.

There weren’t many people with recommendation letters, only around a dozen standing sparsely near the cable cars waiting.

Meanwhile, the line for people without recommendation letters continued inching forward slowly. They stared toward the cable cars with obvious envy in their eyes.

“Man, I wish I could get a recommendation letter someday…” someone muttered quietly from the line.

“In your dreams. Recommendations from the major families aren’t something ordinary people can get.”

“I heard taking the cable car lets you skip straight to the second trial and avoid climbing all 9,999 steps.”

“Stop talking about it. The more you say, the worse I feel…”

Soon enough, Noelle and the others rode the cable car all the way to the mountaintop.

“We’re here! Finally!”

Lucas jumped out first. Before him stretched a wide stone plaza paved with blue-gray flagstones. Several ancient pine trees grew crookedly along the cliffside, their branches reaching toward the clouds.

At the far end of the plaza stood an ancient building with dark brick walls and sweeping eaves. A plaque hanging above the entrance bore two large words: Nightfall Circle.

Several long tables had been set up outside the entrance, covered with pens, paperwork, and all kinds of unfamiliar equipment Staff members in matching uniforms sat behind them, each wearing a Nightfall Circle badge on their chest

More than a dozen people had already arrived and gathered in small groups around the plaza.

Some wore silk clothing that immediately marked them as children of wealthy families. Others wore rough cloth outfits but carried themselves with the sharp presence of trained fighters.
