Chapter 20: Reject Me Already
Irina’s POV

He stepped inside, forcing me to take a step back. The room, which had felt small with Cindy, now felt minuscule, dominated entirely by his presence. He closed the door behind him with a soft but definitive click.
He didn’t speak. He just looked at me, his eyes roaming over my face and worn clothes, as if searching for something.
My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. Theia was utterly silent, she was waiting for him to speak first.
Finally, his eyes locked back onto mine.
“We need to talk,” he said, his voice rough. “Now.”
Talk? Is he here to reject me? I am leaving, perhaps he thought this would be the only chance he was going to get.
“Alpha,” I managed to say even though my mouth went dry. I was ready for him to utter the words I feared. “How may I serve you?”
A low sound rumbled in his chest, not quite a growl, but something frustrated and impatient. “Stop that.”
I tilted my head, not understanding why he was getting so angry. His expression was fierce, conflicted, messing with my head.
“Stop what, Alpha?” I asked, genuinely confused.
Perhaps he is bipolar, because I don’t have another explanation for the way he is behaving
now.
“The subservient act. The bowed head. The ‘how may I serve you’,” he bit out, taking another step forward.
What?
“He doesn’t like us to act like we are an omega!” Theia chirped, and I almost believed her.
If he didn’t want to treat me as an omega, he should have done it from the start.

I folded my arms over my chest. “I am an omega. I must act this way because my position. has changed, Alpha. I know you don’t want me a your mate and Luna, so stop pretending like you feel sorry for me because I don’t.”
His fists clenched at his sides. “Did I say I wanted to reject you?” He asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Still, it sent a shiver down my spine, but I blame my wolf and hormones.
The damn bond feels like a rope around my neck, pulling me against him, finding everything he does attractive, even when I know he wants me dead.
“You never did, but you haven’t accepted the bond either. Everyone knows I’m not someone you liked, even before I became an omega,” I stated the obvious. If he wasn’t going to address the elephant in the room, I would. “Now that my position has changed, I’m sure you don’t want to be linked to me, so unless you came here to tell me you have had a change of heart, I suggest we get this over with.”
He stepped closer and closer while I took a step back until my back hit the wall. Of course, that didn’t stop him. He closed the final distance, caging me in with his arms braced on either side of my head. His body didn’t touch mine, but the heat of him was everywhere, his scent- pine, storm, and pure male-filling my lungs until I felt lightheaded.
“Get what over with?” he demanded, his voice a low, vibrating growl that seemed to resonate in my very bones. His grey eyes burned into mine, no longer icy, but blazing with a ferocity that stole my breath.
“The rejection,” I whispered because his lips looked very tasty for some reason. “Say the words, Alpha. I’ll accept them. I’m used to it by now.”
A muscle in his jaw ticked violently. He leaned in closer, his forehead almost touching mine.” Used to it by now?”
I wasn’t sure if he was asking because he didn’t know or because he wanted to hurt me. Lancer made the rejection very public; I’m sure he must have heard something about it.
I didn’t answer him at first, remembering that moment was still hurtful. I couldn’t believe what he had done. I had known him almost all my life, and he knew I wasn’t the kind of person Julie tried to portray me as.
Yet, he still believed her over me.
“It doesn’t matter; all you need to know is that I’m ready to accept your rejection the moment you utter those words.”

“You think that’s why I’m here?” The question was soft, deadly. “You think I tracked your scent through this damn pack, cornered you in your room, to finally reject you?”
“What other reason could there be?” I shot back.
made your feelings perfectly clear!
You hate me! You’ve hated me for years, long before any of this! You look at me like I’m something you stepped in!”
For a split second, something like shock flickered in his eyes, followed by a wave of frustration so potent I could feel it rolling off him. “You have no idea why I-” He cut himself off, shaking his head as if to clear it. “That doesn’t matter right now.”
“Then I think we all know what we should do next, don’t we?”
Aiden’s face hardened, and I even thought he would hit me, but then, he pulled away. I was no longer trapped between his warm body and the wall, and he used a finger to lift my chin up.” Tell me, what did you mean when you said you were used to it?”
Theia was a mess; she kept jumping up and down.
“Theia… wait, we still don’t know if he will accept us. I still don’t understand why he hates me so much,” I pointed out, but my wolf didn’t listen; she was on cloud nine.
“Why? You want to make fun of me?” I said through gritted teeth.
I’m sure once Aiden hears what happened with Lancer, he is going to get even angrier and reject me on the spot. If a Beta did it, there is no way an Alpha is going to accept someone
like me.
Perhaps if I weren’t an omega…
No. I shook my head.
This is not the time to start feeling sorry for myself. My life is what it is, and at least I got some education that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.
Thanks to that, I’m indebted to Blue Moon, but at least that will give me more tools to survive.
“Irina?” he asked, his voice a low, insistent rumble.
I took a deep breath. If he wanted to know so badly, if he was going to force this confrontation, then I would tell him. Let him have the full, pathetic picture.
It was not my proudest moment, but he would find out sooner or later. I’m sure other Alphas know, and if he starts asking, he will get the information he desperately seeks.
“You are not my first mate, Alpha Aiden,” I said, my voice unnaturally calm. “Beta Lancer was

my first mate, but he rejected me.”
I waited. I braced for the impact. For the lash of his tone ie, for the icy contempt to return tenfold. For him to finally see the full extent of n lessness-rejected not just by my
pack, but by my own destined mate. I was ready for him to turn on his heel and leave, slamming the door on this disastrous, confusing interlude.
But he didn’t move.
He didn’t speak.
The silence stretched, thick and heavy. His finger was still under my chin, his touch surprisingly gentle despite the tension thrumming through him. His grey eyes searched mine, and the fury I expected wasn’t there. Instead, there was a dark, simmering intensity that was somehow more terrifying.
“Lancer,” he finally said, the name a flat, dangerous sound. “He rejected you.”
It wasn’t a question. It was a statement, laced with a cold, deadly certainty.
I nodded. “Yes, he did.”
