Fake Heiress True Luna (Irina) novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28: Leaving Aiden Behind

Irina’s POV

A date? An Alpha wants to date me?

Why?

And why is Aiden here?

He looks like he is ready to kill Alpha Riegrow. If I don’t say something now, bloodshed might happen between these two.

“He asked her on a date,” Theia whispered, a mix of shock and a strange, defiant thrill in her tone. “In front of our mate.”

“And you are having a blast,” I pointed out.

“Who wouldn’t?” She countered.

Theia has changed a lot; I have to thank Aiden for that. She would probably still be sulking if

he hadn’t done what he did.

“Alpha Reigrow, I… I’m flattered, but I’m sure you’re aware of my… position here. I’m an omega. A maid. It wouldn’t be appropriate.”

“You are not saying you don’t want to…” She teased.

I almost rolled my eyes. Theia is having too much fun, and our mate’s face just turns redder and redder as the seconds pass.

“Positions are what others assign us,” Derek said smoothly, taking a step closer. His

chocolate eyes were earnest, and for a fleeting second, I saw something in them that looked like genuine understanding. “I’m asking the woman I see, not the title she holds. The offer stands, Irina. Whenever you’re ready.”

A low growl rumbled through the quiet garden. It was so low I felt it more than heard it, a vibration that seemed to come from the earth itself. Aiden’s hands were clenched into white-knuckled fists at his sides.

Derek glanced at Aiden and winked at him.

Damn, they are fighting for me, right in front of my face. This is insane. A week ago, I was scrubbing floors and being slapped by Julie.

“This is better than those books we read,” Theia purred, utterly delighted.

“This is a disaster!” I mentally shot back. “They’re going to start a war in the middle of the garden!”

“That’s enough,” Aiden’s voice was a blade of ice, sharp and deadly. All pretense of the softer man from moments ago was gone. He was pure Alpha, pure menace. “The Omega has duties to attend to. She doesn’t have time for… distractions.”

Alpha Reigrow’s smile turned razor-sharp. “I wasn’t aware you scheduled her personal time, Keaton. My mistake. I was under the impression she was a member of Blue Moon Pack, not your personal servant.”

For the Goddess.

I took a deliberate step back, putting physical space between myself and both of them. “Alpha Reigrow,” I said to get his attention. “Thank you for your offer. It is… unexpected. I don’t have an answer to your question. Why don’t you ask me again after all is over?”

Before accepting his date, I wanted him to hear the rumors about my true heritage.

Derek smirked. Aiden looked like he was ready to kill me, but to be honest, I was enjoying

this.

Derek grabbed my hand to kiss the back of it. “I’ll gladly ask you again, Irina. Let me know if you need some help.”

I blushed fiercely. Lancer was the only guy I had ever let get near me. I was not used to the

attention.

The moment he was gone, the full force of Aiden’s attention slammed back into me. The air grew colder, heavier.

“Stay away from him,” he commanded.

I looked down at my hand and then back up at Aiden, a slow, deliberate smile touching my lips. It wasn’t a happy smile; it was a challenge. “I don’t think I will,” I said.

“I’ll forbid you.”

“You’ll forbid me? On what grounds?” I took a step toward him, my heart hammering but my voice dangerously calm. “You have no claim over me. You made sure of that.”

His eyes widened a fraction, stunned by my forwardness.

I mean, I wouldn’t have done this a couple of months ago, but I was just so tired.

“That’s it! Look at him! He doesn’t know what to do!” Theia crowed.

Claim

“Shush, let me focus,” I grumbled back. I needed to be alert for what he would throw at me

next.

“I am your mate,” he ground out, the words sounding like they were being ripped from him.

The smile fell from my face. “Are you?” I asked, my voice dropping. “I suppose because you haven’t rejected me, you still are my mate, but that can change easily.”

“Don’t you dare-”

“A mate doesn’t do what you have done. I get that you hate me, but the way you have treated me because I became an omega is not fair. I was not the one who changed myself with Julie. I’m not sure who did it or why, but I’m tired of paying for the price of a crime I didn’t commit.”

I took another step until we were almost toe-to-toe. I had to tilt my head back to meet his furious gaze, but I refused to back down. “I am an omega, I know that, but as you can see, there are other people who don’t care about my pedigree. So don’t you dare pull the ‘mate’ card now just because your pride is stung.”

His jaw worked, a muscle ticking violently. I could see the war in his eyes. He doesn’t want me, but can’t allow another man to approach my radius.

“Irina-” he started, his voice strained.

But I was done listening. At first, I became the perfect Alpha’s daughter. I followed all my training like clockwork, only to be discarded like trash the moment I wasn’t what they expected.

Now, I’m working as an omega, but since my debt has been repaid, I only need to go through this event before I’m gone.

“I have a ceremony to prepare for,” I said, cutting him off. I turned and walked away, my back straight, my head held high. This time, I didn’t wait for his reaction. This time, I was the one leaving him behind.

I could feel his gaze burning into my back, a mixture of fury and something that felt

startlingly like desperation. But he didn’t stop me. He didn’t say a word.

I walked back toward the pack house, the cool evening air doing little to calm the fire in my veins. Theia was practically dancing with glee.

“Did

you see his face? He was speechless! We finally stood up to him!”

“We did,” I thought, a strange sense of empowerment washing over me. It was terrifying, but it was also… exhilarating. For the first time since my birthday, I felt like I had some control. I

had choices.

A rogue Alpha wanted to date me. My fated mate was… well, he was a mess, but he wasn’t ignoring me anymore.

The feeling was short-lived. As I approached the kitchen entrance, a figure stepped out of the shadows, blocking my path.

Julie.

Her arms were crossed, a smug, vicious smile plastered on her face. “Well, well, well,” she purred. “Look at the little Omega, playing with fire. I saw that. Quite the scene you caused with the two Alphas.”

I didn’t break my stride. “I have work to do, Miss Julie.”

She moved to block me again. “Oh, I’m sure you do. But first, I think you need a reminder of your place.” Her eyes gleamed with malice. “The Alpha ceremony is the most important night of my brother’s life. I won’t have you ruining it with your… distractions. So, here’s what’s going to happen. You will finish your duties, and then you will retire to your room for the rest of the night. You are not to attend the ceremony.”

I already expected that, so I was ready for it. I met her gaze, not with the fire I’d shown Aiden, but with a flat, weary acceptance. “As you wish, Miss Julie.” My voice was devoid of emotion. Arguing was pointless. It would only give her more satisfaction, and besides, that means I don’t have to serve at the party tonight.

I don’t have to see Aiden with that woman.

Her smirk widened, a predator toying with cornered prey. “Good. And just to be clear, if I see you so much as peek from the servants’ stairwell, I’ll have Lancer escort you back to your room. Personally.”

I simply nodded. I’m not sure why she feels like she has to threaten me to get what she

wants.

“For an Alpha’s daughter, she uses too much force to deliver her point,” Theia mumbled.

I brushed past her and into the bustling kitchen. I still had to prepare a few side dishes for the ceremony.
