Chapter 41: Attempted Assault
Aiden’s POV
“You should stop moving your leg like that,” Ethan scolded me, but I wish I could stop.
I was so nervous because today I would see my mate again. The distance pains were stronger this time, and I could feel them diminishing as the distance closed.
“I’m going to see my mate, shut up unless you want me to throw you out of the car,” I threatened.
It was only Ethan and me. I could have taken a warrior, but considering Irina and I weren’t exactly on the best terms, I thought it would be better if only my Beta came.

Ethan sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Fine. But just remember why we’re here. This isn’t a conquest. You’re trying to fix what you broke. So maybe dial back the whole ‘throw you out of the car’ energy.”
I glared at him, but the tension in my leg didn’t ease. He was right, and I hated it. I had to
calm down or else I could make another mistake I couldn’t afford.
As we crossed into Silver Fang territory, the shift in the air was immediate. Arlo started growling inside my head as he paced around, causing me a headache. I welcomed the pain, though; it meant he could feel Irina.
She was close.
“Remember to keep it civil with Derek,” Ethan reminded me. “I know you hate his guts, but it looks like your mate is fine here.”
Derek.
The name was a bitter taste in my mouth.
The worst part was that Ethan was right. I visited Silver Fang before he became Alpha, and the change in the pack is visible. Everyone looks happier.
We parked in front of the pack house and waited until he came out.
“Alpha Keaton, having you in my humble home is a pleasure.” Derek greeted us. A man, one I hadn’t met before, was by his side. “This is my Beta, Kael. He arrived almost at the same time you did.”
“A pleasure,” I replied, trying to keep my tone neutral even though I was dying to see her. “This

They exchanged their greetings while my eyes scan

“She is in the library,” Derek informed me. “But before I take you to her, I think we should all
have a little chat.”
“No,” Arlo replied with a low growl. “I want to see our mate now!” He demanded.
“I’m sorry, Alpha Riegrow, but as you know, I came here to see Irina and would like to see how she is now.” Ethan glared at me, but I pretended not to notice.
I wasn’t being rude; Derek was aware of my relationship with Irina. Any other Alpha would have reacted the same way I’m doing right now if they had come to the pack where their mate is and couldn’t see her.
“I understand your impatience; however, the matters I want to discuss with you involve Irina,”
Derek insisted.
Arlo was raging, a caged beast demanding to be set loose. Every second spent in this polite conversation was a fresh agony. I could feel her, a constant, pulling ache in my chest, so
close yet being kept from me.
I wanted to unleash my aura and get what I wanted. The problem was, if I did that, he could kick me out, a war would break out, and the only one who would get hurt would be my mate.
“Lead the way then,” I said, clenching my fists at my sides to calm myself down. My nails were digging deep into my palm to the point I could scent my own blood.
Derek nodded and led the way to the second floor. I looked around and noticed this pack house was nothing special.
Mine was bigger.
“Even I can tell you are judging the pack house, control yourself, Alpha,” Ethan said through our
mind-link.
I rolled my eyes. There was no point in denying it. I wanted my mate to live the best life she could. My pack was stronger and bigger, and I could give her anything she wanted and more.
Derek led us into a study, gesturing to a chair. I remained standing, a silent declaration that
this would be brief.
“Irina is here as my guest,” Derek began, his tone firm. “She is under my protection. I need your word that your presence here won’t cause her further distress.”

Arlo bristled at the implication that I was the source of her distress. “I already told you I won’t do anything she doesn’t want, but with this ‘reunion’ I’m guessing you will get in the middle of anything I try,”
“If you act this way, absolutely.” Derek’s gaze was unwavering.
I growled.
“And if you keep acting like this, I’m going to ask you to leave the pack,” He finished,
I was about to open my mouth when Ethan came from behind and pinched my side. “No, Alpha Riegrow, My Alpha was just on edge because he had been waiting to see Irina again, but I can promise he will be in his best behavior.”
I forced the growl back down my throat, my jaw clenched so tight it ached. “Ethan speaks the truth,” I managed, the words tasting like ash. “My… eagerness to see my mate has made me discourteous. It won’t happen again.”
Derek watched me, his expression unreadable. He didn’t believe me, but he accepted the submission for what it was: a strategic retreat. “See that it doesn’t,” he said simply. “I’ll take you to the library. I’ll give you some privacy. But my warning stands, Aiden. Her well-being is my priority.”
I nodded and followed him once again, but the entire time, a new sensation clawed its way up from the pit of my stomach. It wasn’t just Arlo’s impatience anymore-it was a deep, primal unease.
“What is it?” I demanded silently. The only time he acted like this was when we met Irina. “We are about to see her; you should behave yourself.”
But Arlo didn’t answer with words. He just paced and growled, a low, continuous rumble of distress that set my every nerve on edge. His agitation was a live wire feeding my own. Something was wrong-something beyond my own nervousness, beyond the tension with
Derek.
As we approached the library door, the feeling intensified, and a cold dread wrapped around my spine. The mate bond was screaming now; Irina needed me, and something was happening.
I didn’t wait for Derek to open the door. I shoved past him, my body moving before my mind. could process the scene.
And then I saw it. I understood.
There she was, my Irina, standing her ground. But facing her was a woman, an omega from
