Chapter 45: Finding The Truth
Irina’s POV
Claim
The silence was a physical weight, thick and suffocating. I could feel their stares-disbelief, confusion, a dawning, terrifying awe. My own heart was a frantic drum against my ribs, not from fear of the poison, but from the terrifying unknown of my own body.
“Theia?” I called, hoping she could shed some light on what the hell happened.
No wonder she didn’t stop me.
Aiden was the first to move. He took a slow, deliberate step forward, his gaze locked on the flower in my hand. His expression was no longer just shocked but fiercely, protectively
curious.
“It can’t be,” he murmured, more to himself than to anyone else. He reached out, not for me, but for the wolfsbane itself. His intent was clear-he needed to confirm its potency, to prove
that what I was holding was real.
His fingertips, calloused and strong, brushed against the edge of one of the dried petals.
The effect was instantaneous.
A sharp, sizzling sound, like meat hitting a hot pan, filled the silent room. Aiden didn’t even flinch, which wasn’t surprising. Most Alphas are used to pain and try not to react to it. The acrid smell of burned flesh stung the air.
The wolfsbane was real. It was potent. It had burned him in a mere second of contact.
And it had done absolutely nothing to me.
I was still holding it, the flower resting innocently in my palm as if it were a common daisy. The contrast was horrifying. My skin was pale and smooth, while his was already blistering.
“By the Goddess,” Derek breathed, rising slowly from his chair. “Did you know?”
I shook my head.
Ethan and Kael were speechless, their earlier bravado completely gone, replaced by a kind of superstitious fear.
“You’re immune,” Aiden said in awe. “Completely immune.”
I started to panic. There was no way I was immune to the very thing that could kill our kind. It was impossible. Unheard of. My breath hitched, coming in short, sharp gasps. The room

kn’t be,” I choked out, my voice barely a whisper “Tha” not… that’s not possible.”
wolfsbane felt heavy in my hand. I was exchanged when I was born, meaning I could not wolf, at all…
I painted inside your mind or what?” Theia’s calm voice through my rising hysteria. She is trying to ease the tension by being funny, but I was about to lose my freaking mind!”
Jen was at my side in an instant, his burned hand forgotten. He didn’t touch the wolfsbane,

buldn’t. I started feeling dizzy, my hands numbed, and a high-pitched ringing started in my rs, drowning out everything else. The world tilted on its axis. I was falling, but Aiden’s nds on my face were the only solid things in the universe.
e got you,” his voice cut through the static, a low, unwavering rumble. He didn’t shake me demand I calm down. He simply held my gaze, his thumbs continuing their steady, thmic motion on my temples. “Breathe with me, Irina. In… and out.”

lungs in a whoosh.

and out. In… and out. With each breath, the dizziness receded. The ringing faded. My art’s frantic drumming began to slow to a manageable rhythm.
e panic was being pushed back. Somehow I felt how my heart and breathing returned to

sten to me,” he said, his grey eyes holding mine. “It doesn’t matter what you are or aren’t. It esn’t matter if you’re a wolf, a human, or something the Moon Goddess dreamed up in a 5ment of divine inspiration.” His thumb brushed away a tear I hadn’t even felt escape. “You
my mate. You are smart and strong. You are mine, and this changes nothing.”

“But-”
“No buts, Irina. You had your first shift, didn’t you? wolf, but perhaps you are special.”
Claim
“I’m an omega,” I reminded him, the word tasting like ash. “The lowest rank. I’m not supposed to be… special. That’s why they hated me.”
Aiden’s gaze didn’t waver. “You were never just an omega,” he said, his voice fierce with conviction. “Think about it, Irina. You trained as an Alpha’s daughter and excelled in everything; that is not something an omega can do.”
“But when I trained with Derek… I lacked so much,” I mumbled.
Training your mind was one thing; everyone could do it, but training your body was completely different.
“That’s not true,” Derek interrupted. “You are new to my training, but picked up the footwork faster than any new warrior I’ve ever seen. Your instincts are there, Irina. They’re just… untrained, I’m sure. If you keep practicing, you will be ready to spar with our Betas.”
My eyebrows furrowed. If the Elder could find Julie and discover I was an omega, why would he hide what I truly am?
Was I an Alpha? My aura doesn’t feel like it.
A Beta?
An Omega?

None of them made sense. The moment I was stripped of my Alpha’s daughter title, I
couldn’t use my aura anymore.
“But Elder Austin confirmed it,” I argued. “He claimed I was an omega; you would have felt it if I were something different.”
“We don’t know,” Aiden countered. “Perhaps he wasn’t aware of your true nature, or maybe he is trying to hide it. Whatever the reason, it is clear,” he pointed at the wolfsbane in my hand. ” That you are not ordinary, Irina.”
I…
“Theia?” I called again, and she should know something. She is my wolf, but her connection with the Moon Goddess gives her more insight.
She should tell me something.

didn’t come to your pack?” Aiden asked Derek, and the latter shook his head. “Why?”
everyone likes the life of a pack; some rogues prefer to live free. “He explained. But they jelp if I ask them to. Julie and Irina were swapped, meaning Irina lived Julie’s life and versa. We can find the rogues she lived with and ask around.”
…that was a solid plan.
bugh I agree with Aiden, I’m sure Julie didn’t suffer as much as she claims she did, but ng the rogues who raised her is our best lead to finding your real parents.” Derek agreed.
