Chapter 48: Deep In The Forest
Irina’s POV
Claim
My eyes fluttered open. I was lying on the forest floor, my head cradled against a firm chest. Aiden’s scent filled my senses. His face was above mine, etched with a worry so deep it made my heart ache.
“Irina? Can you hear me?” His voice was tight, his thumb stroking my cheek.
Over his shoulder, I saw Derek watching. His expression was unreadable, but his gaze was intense, focused solely on me. Rylan stood a few feet away, arms crossed, looking like he’d just seen a ghost.
I had fainted.
Was it because the Moon Goddess wanted to talk to me?
Or perhaps she shook, and a surge of… whatever that power was… had been too much.
But as I pushed myself up, Aiden’s arms reluctantly loosening their hold, I realized something was different. The world was sharper. The green of the leaves was more vibrant, the
individual scents of the four men around me distinct and clear. And beneath it all, a new hum, a low, steady thrum of energy in my veins. It was faint, but I’m sure that it will grow stronger.
Wow…
“Do you still believe you are an omega?” Theia asked, her voice sounding like a thunderclap inside my brain.
I met Aiden’s concerned gaze and then looked at Derek, seeing the silent question in his eyes. I took a shaky breath; I should tell them the truth, but I still want to keep it to myself for a
while.
Until I understand what I am.
“I’m okay,” I said, and my voice was steadier than I expected. I looked at Rylan. “You said the settlement was destroyed. Did any of the survivors… did they say anything about a child? About why they were protecting her?”
Rylan’s eyebrows shot up, surprised by the directness of the question from someone who had just been unconscious. He glanced at Derek, then back at me.
“They never said why they were protecting her,” Rylan continued, his voice low, almost hesitant. “I just know they did. And… whatever they were afraid of-it wasn’t just some

common threat. They treated her like she was sacred, like… like she carried something inside her that could change everything.”
ured. Something powerful. My fingers
I swallowed hard, my pulse quickening. Someth itched, the hum in my veins growing more insistent, more insistent, as if responding to his
words.
Aiden stepped closer, his hand brushing against mine, grounding me. “Irina… whatever’s happening to you… Whatever you are, it doesn’t matter.”
I didn’t reply; my focus was still on Rylan. “Survivors, that’s what I want to know.”
Rylan sighed heavily. “I told Derek and Aiden we do have survivors, but they aren’t exactly friendly, especially after what happened to them.”
I nodded. “I understand, but please, I need your help.”
Rylan exchanged a glance with Derek, then finally nodded. “Alright,” he said slowly. “We’ll help you. But you need to understand-these survivors aren’t like you or me. They’ve been hiding for months, training, surviving. They don’t trust anyone easily, even if you have questions, I’m not sure if they will answer them.”
I drew in a shaky breath, the weight of what I was asking settling on my shoulders. “I don’t want to fight them,” I admitted. “I just… I need to know why they were protecting her, that’s all I’m going to ask.”
Derek finally stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. “Do you think they will hurt Irina?” He asked Rylan.
He shook his head. “Not her, but you two.”
They both looked taken aback by his statement.
“Why?” Aiden questioned, his arms wrapping around my waist immediately.
I tried to ignore the shiver that ran down my spine because of the tingles from the bond.
Rylan ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. “They don’t like Alphas. Even if Derek was once a rogue, they won’t welcome him with open arms if you go there with me, then-”
“No,” Aiden growled, cutting him off. “Irina won’t go there with you. Derek might know you, but to me, you are a stranger.”
I wanted to roll my eyes, but I could understand where he was coming from. Rylan didn’t give me a bad vibe, but I met him just now. I fainted after what he told me, and now he suggested I leave the only two people I have trusted so far.

Yes, I trust Aiden, even if he acted like an asshole at the beginning. I am sure he won’t do that
again.
“He better not, or else I’m going to reject him,” The grumbled lowly.
I wanted to chuckle, but I was still in the middle of a serious conversation. If I laughed now, it
would look bad.
Instead, I cleared my throat and squared my shoulders. The power running through my veins told me I could face anything.
“I’m going with Rylan,” I stated, brushing Aiden’s arms away gently but firmly, my pulse quickening not from fear, but from the thrill of finally making a decision for myself. The hum in my veins surged in response, almost approvingly, grounding me, sharpening my focus.
Aiden’s jaw tightened, his grey eyes flicking between me and Rylan like he was trying to read my intent. “Irina…” His voice was low, tinged with warning. “Are you sure? You barely know him, and you’ve been through-”
“I know enough,” I interrupted, my voice steadier than I felt. “And I trust myself to handle this. I can’t just stand by. Not when there’s a chance that child is me.”
Rylan raised an eyebrow, a hint of respect flickering across his usually guarded face. “She’s stubborn,” he muttered, almost to himself. “Good. We’ll need that where we’re going.”
Aiden’s hand lingered on my shoulder, hesitant. “Just… promise me you’ll be careful. Don’t do anything reckless. If something goes wrong-”
“I won’t,” I said firmly, cutting him off. “You need to trust me.”
Derek stepped forward. “Please take care of her, Ryan.”
The man nodded. “I will. You two should head back or try to find somewhere to stay. Irina and I will return in three days.”
“Three days?!” They asked in unison.
Ryan nodded. “You don’t think they’ll trust us right away, right?”
They were both at a loss for words.
I could see the tension in their faces, the mixture of worry and frustration radiating off them in waves. Aiden’s jaw was tight, his hand lingering near my shoulder, as if he could keep me tethered by sheer will. Derek’s expression was sharper and wary, calculating every risk, but I could see the trust buried underneath, however reluctant.
