Chapter 5: Plotting
Derek’s POV
My heart stopped.
For a full second, maybe two, everything in me went silent.
I told Kael I found my mate during Irina’s ceremony, and I’m sure he told Ethan, but I never said who she was not.
Only after we arrived at Silver Fang did I reveal to my Beta who my mate was.
I cleared my throat and tried to pretend I wasn’t on edge by the fact that he knew who my
mate was.
“Even if she is, I don’t see why you wanted to talk to me alone.” “I’m the Alpha of this pack, Derek,” he said flatly. “She is part of it.”
“Are you telling me you will go against my mate bond? Perhaps keep her locked up?” I growled lowly, stepping closer. My wolf was already on edge, and Aiden’s wasn’t helping with our current situation.
He shook his head. “Of course not, only the Moon Goddess can do that. I wanted to ask you because it seems like you need some help.”
I stared at him. “Help?”
Aiden nodded. “I’m not sure why she hasn’t accepted your proposal, but you can use this time in my pack to try to win her over.”
“Yeah, considering what has happened with Irina, and he isn’t the best to give dating advice,” My wolf huffed.
I rolled my eyes. “That’s not giving me help; I was already going to do that.”
“I can arrange a few meetings here and there, but I need something in exchange.”
My jaw clenched. Of course, he f*****g did.
Aiden and I weren’t exactly friends. I only helped him last time because Irina’s life was on the line, and I liked her.
To be honest, even if I didn’t have a romantic attraction to Irina, I would have helped out because I hated the situation she was in.

I still don’t think Aiden is worthy of her, but I don’t see her as a love interest anymore. Aiden, on the other hand, was not someone I wished to see in every gathering, but there was a small
problem.
Thanks to my Beta, our packs were related.
I didn’t like him, and he didn’t like me.
“Not interested,” I said, ready to turn around and leave.
“You don’t want to know why your mate hates you so much?” He questioned, and I, like a stupid fool, fell for his bait.
“What the hell do you want?” I growled.
“Your mate hates Alphas for a reason,” He said, and I was about to jump on him when he finished. “And no, it wasn’t me. My father is the one who took everything from Cindy’s family.”
Irina’s POV
I tore my eyes away from where Aiden and Derek had vanished. Not because I stopped worrying-but because Debbie had practically hung herself around my shoulders like an affectionate koala.
“It looks like she missed us,” Theia chuckled.
I never imagined Debbie would be a hug person, but it turns out, she loves to show her love
that way.
“Stop staring, girl. You’re going to burn holes in their heads,” she teased, elbow nudging me once she finally let go of my poor neck. “Or cause an earthquake. One of the two.”
I groaned. “Debbie, I’m just making sure Aiden doesn’t-”
“-throw Derek through a wall?” she finished with a grin. “Please. If they start fighting, Ethan will record it, and Kael will charge admission. We could make good money.”
I tried not to laugh. I failed.
I have to admit, I missed these comments. Since she left, I have had to deal with different
pack members making comments or pulling different stunts. I’m sure that if Debbie were still here, they wouldn’t happen as often as they do now.
Debbie squeezed my shoulder. “Relax. Your mate may be allergic to smiling, but he’s not stupid. If he were after you, that would be a different situation, but that’s not the case.”

I tilted my head. “It’s not?”
“You sound disappointed,” Theia rolled her eyes at me.
“Just surprised. Do you know something I don’t?” I asked back through the link.
Debbie shook her head. “Not anymore, so you don’t need to worry about those two. I’m sure Aiden is just being a dickhead, like he always is, but this time he won’t hurt Derek.”
Before I could question her further, Debbie suddenly froze.
And when Debbie froze, I froze.
Because if there’s one universal truth in this world, it’s this:
Debbie never stops moving unless something is very, very wrong.
Her eyes narrowed slightly, as if she were listening to something far away-something I couldn’t hear.
“Deb?” I whispered.
She blinked, coming back to herself. Whatever she heard, she decided to ignore it. “Anyway!” she chirped. “Let’s go eat. I’m starving. When I arrived at Silver Fang, I realized I had never tasted your food.”
Theia snorted. “She’s hiding something.”
“Obviously,” I shot back. “But if she doesn’t want to tell us, she won’t.”
Debbie tugged me inside the pack house with suspicious enthusiasm. She once said that my cooking must be awful because I was raised as an Alpha’s daughter, and now she wants to try it?
“Debbie, even Aiden can lie better than this,” I pointed out.
Her breath hitched, but she never stopped smiling. “I assure you, it’s nothing you should worry about; besides, you will find out about it later.”
I rolled my eyes.
“I’ll just say I’m not stupid, Debbie,” I reminded her. “Now let’s go inside, even if you think I’m a terrible cook, you’ll see how wrong you were.”
We stepped into the pack house, and the moment the door shut behind us, the sounds of chatter from outside faded. Kael didn’t follow us; I’m sure he went to look for his Alpha and make sure that my Alpha didn’t kill him.

We walked into the kitchen, and some of the omegas looked at us and quickly scurried away. When I came into the kitchen, they scowled or rolled their eyes, but now that Debbie was here, they didn’t dare.
“I hate double-faced bitches,” She commented under her breath.
I pretended not to hear her, because it was obvious she didn’t want me to.
“So, what shall I cook?” I asked out loud, not expecting a particular answer.
She hopped onto one of the stools by the counter, swinging her legs like a child.
“Alright, Luna,” she said dramatically, clapping her hands. “Feed me, and please, remember I can’t get sick.”
I sighed, grabbed an apron, and tied it around my waist.
“Stop trying to distract me.”
“I swear I’m not.”
