Chapter 8: Aiden’s Past
Irina’s POV
I’m sure something happened with Derek. He is… distracted.
“Why do you keep looking at an Alpha who isn’t your mate?” Aiden suddenly asked through our link, making me cough.
I hadn’t realized I’d been staring at Derek for so long-my mind was too busy trying to figure out what was wrong with him. His face looked tense, his shoulders stiff, and every time someone passed near him, he looked away as if afraid they’d ask him something. It wasn’t
like him at all.
“I wasn’t looking at him,” I lied. Badly.
Aiden raised an eyebrow. Even without looking at him directly, I could feel his suspicion. But it is kinda cute to see him act this way. Aiden doesn’t get jealous easily.
“Irina.”
“Okay, maybe I was…” I admitted with a sigh. “But it’s not what you think.”
“Yeah, sure, make yourself sound more suspicious,” Theia huffed.
“Then what is it?” His tone held that edge that told me he was ready to flip the table if I ever
felt something for someone else.
“He looks… off.”
Aiden followed my gaze, subtle but deliberate, as if verifying it himself. Derek was standing near Kael, but he wasn’t listening to a single word the Beta said. His jaw was clenched so tightly I wondered if it hurt.
“When I was at Silver Fang, he was never distracted, and to be honest, I’ve seen him act differently ever since my Luna ceremony.”
Aiden didn’t respond immediately. He observed for a few seconds, and then the tension in his arm relaxed. “He just needs time, baby. Everything will be fine.”
I turned my head to look at him. “You know something.”
“I do,” He admitted instantly. “But it is not my place to say it.”
I huffed and folded my arms over my chest. “If you keep secrets from me, I’m going to do the
same.”

Aiden’s gaze landed on my face, and the son of a my mate, smirked.
“I’d love to see you do that, gorgeous, just know that if I get too jealous, I might start a war.”
This mother trucker…
“Point taken, but keeping secrets doesn’t necessarily mean making you jealous,” I reminded him. “You know I have a few tricks up my sleeve.”
“Like?” He questioned, quirking an eyebrow.
I took a sip from my glass. “If I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret, right?”
“Can you two stop with the silent conversation?” Debbie complained, suddenly sitting by my side. “We are not inside your minds, and it is not very polite to talk through the mind link.”
Debbie’s voice made me jump a little.
“I-sorry,” I mumbled, heat rising to my cheeks.
Aiden didn’t even pretend to look ashamed. Of course not. He just leaned back in his chair, all confident. Considering Debbie and he act like siblings, I’m not exactly surprised.
He rested his hand on my thigh and ignored Debbie, as if telling her she wasn’t exactly
welcome in our conversation.
Debbie groaned. “Great. And now you’re both doing the look-at-each-other-and-smirk thing. Seriously, Irina, stop enabling him.”
Aiden chuckled. “You came here voluntarily, Debbie. That’s on you.”
Debbie rolled her eyes. “I missed my friend, Irina. Not you, in fact, you can go over there to talk with my mate and Derek, I’m sure you three will have plenty to talk about.”
“What do I have to talk about with those two. They are as interesting as-”
I elbowed him so hard he grunted.
“Behave,” I hissed through our link.
Aiden shot me a wounded look, rubbing his ribs. “I think you broke something,” he whispered dramatically.
“You’ll live,” I replied sweetly.
Debbie snorted. “Honestly? I never thought I would see this side of you, Irina. You actually tamed this Alpha.”
& Auden’s Pa
Aiden rolled his eyes. “I’m not tamed.”
I quirked an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
He looked at me, but didn’t counter.
Claim
Debbie laughed very loudly. “Sure, keep telling yourself that, Aiden. I’m sure one day you’ll sound convinced.”
Aiden shrugged. “You know what? I’m whipped, but since Irina is the one who tamed me, I’m not ashamed to admit it.”
I covered my face. “Please stop.”
But they didn’t.
Debbie leaned forward and poked Aiden’s arm. “So, Alpha Sunshine, why don’t you go socialize with the other Alphas? Maybe it’ll improve your personality.”
Aiden lifted his chin. “My personality is perfect.”
“For who?” Debbie deadpanned. “Satan?”
Debbie really isn’t scared of Aiden. He is considered the strongest Alpha with the biggest pack in the whole continent, but here she is, making fun of him.
Aiden opened his mouth, probably to counter and say something worse to her, when a warrior suddenly appeared behind him, bowing his head low.
“Alpha,” the guard whispered, leaning close enough that even I couldn’t catch the words.
Why so much secrecy?
Aiden’s whole expression shifted-just slightly-but enough for me to notice. His back straightened, jaw tightening for a fraction of a second before he masked it.
Debbie and I exchanged a look.
Aiden nodded once at the guard, who quickly walked away.
He turned back to us. “I need to take care of something.”
My heart dipped. “Something?” I tilted my head, eyebrows pulling together. “What happened?”
Aiden leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.
“Everything is fine, baby,” he murmured. “I’ll be back.”

Chapter 8 Aiden’s Past
No explanation. No details. No hint.
He just left.
Claim
I stared after him, unease twisting in my stomach. Aiden never hid things from me. Never brushed off my questions. Never avoided giving an answer.
Debbie watched him go, then slowly turned toward me.
“…Okay, what was that?” she asked.
“Nothing,” I replied quickly, shaking my head.
Debbie raised both eyebrows. “Irina. Please. You’re a terrible liar.”
I sighed, slumping back into my seat. “It’s… probably nothing.”
But Debbie kept staring at me like she could see through every thought I had.
So I exhaled and admitted quietly, “Aiden has never kept anything from me. Not since I became Luna. He knows my position in the pack is not the best and wants everyone to know we are equals. And just now… he avoided giving any details.”
Debbie frowned. “That’s weird. Perhaps rogues are roaming around?”
I shook my head.
“Even if they were, he would have told me,” I pointed out.
She hummed, tapping her fingers on the table. “Okay, then maybe… something with Kael? Or Kratos? He might have called him here. Or-oh! Maybe Aiden is dealing with some Alpha politics thingy behind the scenes?”
I gave her a flat stare. “Debbie, he would still tell me.”
She sniffed. “Right. True. He’s annoyingly transparent with you.”
I nodded, frowning at the dark hallway Aiden disappeared into. “Exactly. So why not now?”
We both sat in silence, thinking.
“…What if it’s something about Derek?” Debbie suggested.
I shrugged. “Possible. He didn’t look well earlier. And I know that topic is still…
