Typically, I’d make a beeline for the shower the moment I stepped through the door. However, with him here today, I was eager to spend some quality time with him first. So, I’posed the question. “What would you like to do? Watch a movie, read a book, or play a game? I’m game for anything.”
My romantic history was rather sparse. There was only one so-called “relationship” in my past, a half- hearted school-age fling with Landon. Back then, Landon was the pursuer, meticulously planning every single date. Everything was centered around his desires.
During our school days, Landon was a die-hard game enthusiast, and I tagged along to games far and wide. After graduation, our dates boiled down to shopping and dining.
He was single-minded about his career, and I followed him wherever he went. Landon promised me a mate-bonding ceremony once the pack’s territory stretched across the southern continent and the Richardson Group went public. In my naivete, I readily agreed. I was accustomed to quietly giving and safeguarding in love, never pausing to contemplate what I truly yearned for.
“You don’t have to bend over backwards to do things with me.” Leonardo’s voice jolted me out of my reverie. “If you’re fatigued, let’s just relax. If you’re in a funk, do something that brings you joy… If you feel like it, share your day with me. I’m dying to know.”
His words left me in a bit of a daze. He’d picked up on the exhaustion I couldn’t conceal and remembered that I’d had a rough day. This kind of thoughtful care was both foreign and incredibly alluring.
“I’d like to take a shower first and then finish the movie we started. But I might doze off midway because I’m pretty wiped out today… Still, I’m really itching to have a chat with you,” I said, laying my thoughts
bare.
In the upper echelons of the werewolf packs, bonds were usually about resource pooling and power alliances, having nothing to do with emotions. Initially, I regarded Leonardo merely as a powerful ally. But as we got to know each other better, I’d unwittingly developed feelings for him and started harboring expectations. I was constantly on edge, terrified of disregarding his feelings.
“Sure thing,” he replied gently, as if his patience with me was boundless.
I used to mistake Landon’s “compliance” for tolerance. It wasn’t until I met Leonardo that I grasped the true meaning of tolerance. It was the care and understanding woven into the smallest details. He could even anticipate my needs before I did.
Fearing that he’d grow impatient waiting, I dashed into the living room with my hair still damp after the shower. Leonardo had also taken a quick shower and was already settled on the sofa. He hadn’t brought a change of clothes, so he’d had Aaron rush some over. I was completely oblivious to the whole episode.
Leonardo was now clad in a black silk robe, the collar slightly ajar, revealing his chiseled chest muscles, still glistening with a touch of moisture in the dim light. Thank heavens it was dark; otherwise, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to rein in my wild impulses and hide my blatant attraction to him. He was irresistibly sexy even when fully dressed, and now, with his robe open, he was like a walking aphrodisiac.

“Mr. Sanchez, what are you up to?” I murmured softly in his ear as I tiptoed closer.

He was looking down at his phone, his brows knitted slightly, as if grappling with something thorny. My – voice made his fingers twitch, and he quickly switched off the screen.
“Nothing,” he responded swiftly, a hint of coolness in his voice.
“Is there another emergency?” I asked, concern etched on my face as I eyed his furrowed brows.
“No.” He dismissed. Seeing that I was about to probe further, Leonardo pulled me into his arms and steered the conversation in a different direction. “What put you in a bad mood today? Tell me.”
It was a pleasant surprise that he still remembered. A wave of warmth washed over me. “All those are just a load of trouble. Sharing them would only drag you down,” I said in a hushed tone.
What was more, I had no intention of revealing my revenge plan against Landon to him. Leonardo might seem rugged on the outside, but he had a tender heart. I was not like him. My heart was marred by scars, filled with intense hatred and rage. I didn’t want him to catch a glimpse of this part of me until I had purged these emotions.
Noticing my reluctance to elaborate, Leonardo didn’t pry further.
“Has that old business of yours not been settled yet?” he asked after a short while, his voice low and mellow.
