My presence was everywhere in the Sanchez Group building-my scent, my sense of territory. Natalie was curious, asking questions about everything, as if she wanted to know about every single day of my past. It was a strange and wonderful feeling, like someone had truly stepped into my solitary domain and chosen to stay.

The balcony off my office was my favorite spot. From there, I could see the windows of her apartment a few blocks away. When she first chose that place, I felt it was the Moon Goddess’ guidance.

In the past, when I missed her, I would come here and look into the distance. But now things were different. If I wanted to see her, I needed to see her right away-to touch her, kiss her, mark her with my scent. I would never be satisfied with just watching from afar again.

The way she looked back at me, resting against my chest with those stunning features, was utterly heart-stopping. When I told her I’d work from this balcony from now on so she could check on me anytime, I meant it. Only with her in my sight did my territory feel complete.

Natalie’s POV:

On the way back that night, the driver noticed a car following us. When Leonardo realized it, he signaled to pull over and had the bodyguards intercept the vehicle.

It was rare in Maritime City for anyone to dare tail the car of Silver-Maned Pack’s leader. I had been feeling sleepy, but the sight of the people getting out of the other car woke me up instantly.

A black sedan had been following us. Two unfamiliar men stepped out. They were tall and broad, wearing short sleeves despite the cold. One of them had sleeves full of tattoos and solid muscles, looking like they were from the underworld.

Leonardo’s bodyguards approached them for questioning, then returned to report. The men said they knew Ryan and wanted a private word with Leonardo.

Why would Ryan be involved with people like this? We were both suspicious. I grabbed Leonardo’s hand anxiously. “They don’t look friendly.”

Leonardo patted my hand, completely calm. Instead, he had them brought to the car window. The bodyguards stayed close, watching every move, ready to react at the slightest hint of trouble.

“You’re Leonardo, Ryan’s son?” one of them asked. His tone sounded familiar.

Leonardo stayed silent. A bodyguard answered coldly, “Cut to the chase. What do you want with Mr. Sanchez?”

The two men exchanged a look, smirking. One lowered his head slightly. “Mr. Sanchez, no need to be tense. We just happened to see you and wanted to say hello. After all, you’re the son of an old acquaintance. It would be rude not to…”

“Step back,” the bodyguard warned immediately. Leonardo’s guards were all retired werewolf soldiers, professional in their skills and alertness. Any sign of the men overstepping, and they’d go on alert.

Seeing the tight security, the two men took a slight step back, chuckling low. “Just give our regards to Ryan. Tell him… his old friends still think about him often.”

Hearing that, Leonardo’s head snapped toward them. The two men laughed softly again, then turned and walked away.

The bodyguards asked Leonardo if they should follow and investigate. Leonardo gave a silent nod and told them to note the license plate.

Once the window was up, I was full of worry. “Who were they? How does father know them?”

Those men were clearly troublesome. Even though they called it a greeting, their tone sounded more like a threat. How could someone like Ryan have gotten involved with people from that background?

Leonardo’s expression was grim. “I don’t know. I heard he made enemies with some international groups when he was younger, but I don’t know the details. You know how he is- he never tells me anything about his life.”

Their father-son relationship had always been distant. But mentioning these people seemed to stir up some shadows for Leonardo. He was kidnapped as a child, and initially, it was people like this who had targeted him. At the time, Silver-Maned Pack thought a relative had leaked his whereabouts, but Leonardo vaguely remembered rumors: the ones who kidnapped him were actually people Ryan couldn’t afford to cross. Ryan couldn’t pursue it, so he let it drop.

Maybe Ryan was the biggest liability the Silver-Maned Pack had. Even after all these years, those guys still came after him.

Leonardo was quiet for a moment, his emotions churning, but he didn’t want me to worry more. “He’ll deal with his own problems. I’ll have someone pass the message to him.”

I was still uneasy. “You need to take more bodyguards with you from now on. Once we find out who those people are, we should report it to the police.”

“Okay,” Leonardo agreed to everything.

The fact that those two could tail us unnoticed and appear suddenly felt more like a show of force. If they really wanted to do something, waiting in the shadows would have given them plenty of opportunities. But with Leonardo’s tight security and Ryan staying safe all these years, maybe it was all just bluffing.

Just as I was thinking that, the car jolted violently and stalled.
