Chapter 158 Regretful

Victoria’s POV:

I had already called a car and initially wanted to refuse. But I was so dazed by the crushing disappointment and the news of Leonardo’s mate bond that, almost against my will, I didn’t turn him down.

Once in Samuel’s car, I refused the passenger seat and curled up directly in the back. Samuel tried to make conversation, but I was too distracted to engage.

Samuel’s POV:

Throughout the drive, I attempted to talk to Victoria, but she ignored me. Left with no choice, I focused on driving.

But we were only halfway there when, at a traffic light intersection, Victoria suddenly started frantically pounding on the window. “Stop the car! I’m going to vomit!” she yelled.

Startled, I quickly pulled over. Victoria stumbled out of the car, clinging to a tree by the roadside as she vomited violently, completely losing the elegant composure expected of an Omega.

I averted my gaze, masking a flicker of disgust that passed through my eyes, and offered her a clean handkerchief. “Ms. Thompson, take care of yourself,” I spoke, my voice soft with worry.

After catching her breath and wiping her mouth, Victoria unceremoniously threw the handkerchief on the ground. “Samuel, skip the niceties. Whatever you want to say, spit it out,” she said, sounding annoyed.

A hint of displeasure flashed in my eyes, though I had no intention of keeping the handkerchief anyway, simply feel regretful on your behalf, Ms. Thompson,” I replied, still keeping my cool.

“Regretful?” Victoria sneered, as if stung.

“It’s well known that you and Mr. Sanchez grew up together, and your pheromone compatibility was once considered a match made in heaven. If not for certain incidents back then, you might have already completed the mate bond. Now, things have changed. For Mr. Sanchez to bond with Natalie, whom he’s known for such a short time, isn’t that regrettable?” My voice was laced with persuasion.

“What do you know?” Victoria hissed hoarsely, her Omega pheromones fluctuating erratically due to her agitated state.

I smiled calmly, “I may not understand the profound bond between you and Mr. Sanchez. But I can see the depth of your feelings, Ms. Thompson. And I can also see that the mate bond between Leonardo and Natalie was formed so hastily and lacks a solid foundation.” I saw her expression waver slightly at my words. I knew I had hit a nerve.

“So what?” Victoria’s voice held a trace of barely perceptible hope.

“I’m willing to help you, Ms. Thompson.” I lowered my voice further, making it more persuasive. “A mate bond isn’t necessarily irreversible. How long has Leonardo known Natalie? Compare that to the years of history you share with him. Since gentle waiting hasn’t brought you what you want, why not take the initiative? I can assist you.”

Victoria’s POV:

When I looked into Samuel’s calculating eyes, my chaotic heart grew heavy with unease.

Samuel’s POV:

Just as Victoria was deep in thought, a familiar figure across the narrow street caught my eye.

A woman wearing casual athletic clothes and carrying a large travel backpack was waiting to cross the street. She seemed to look over at the same moment I saw her.

Our eyes met briefly before she hurriedly changed direction and ran off. However, my gaze followed her until I saw her enter a small private hospital nearby.

Lily’s POV:

I didn’t stop running until I was inside the hospital elevator. Leaning against the cold wall of the cab, I finally dared to gasp for air.

I hadn’t been mistaken earlier. The man across the street was Samuel, and the woman with the nice figure beside him looked somewhat familiar in profile. Even though I had little to do with him, I always felt inexplicably nervous, as if I’d stumbled upon some secret.

Pushing open the door to the crowded public ward in the inpatient area, I found my mother and my younger brother, Harry Lane, squeezed onto a narrow bed in the corner.

“Lily, you’re here,” Harry said, but I quickly gestured for him to be quiet. My mother had finally fallen asleep, and we couldn’t wake her.

I quietly put away the daily necessities I had brought before pulling Harry outside the ward and slippin him some living expenses.

Our family was poor. My mother was diagnosed with cancer just after I started university, losing her abilit to work. Harry was only 12 and boarded at school outside. Even though I got into graduate school with excellent grades, I chose to start working and earning money as soon as possible.

Fortunately, fate was somewhat kind. After starting my job, I was assigned to work under Natalie. The income was decent at the Richardson Group, and it became more comfortable after I moved to the Scott Group.

But my mother’s medical bills were endless, and anxiety still often left me feeling suffocated.

Harry was returning to school tomorrow. After carefully reminding him of a few things, I went back into the room to check on my mother.
