“An excuse?” Aaliyah’s words instantly ignited my suppressed rage. I turned around, my cold eyes locking onto her. The oppressive aura of an Alpha filled the room.

I demanded, “Nathan has no pack discipline because of you. My mom is sick in bed because of you. The whole house is in chaos. Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Or are you deliberately causing trouble with malicious intent?”

“Landon!” Her eyes widened in disbelief, her pheromones fluctuating wildly. “How can you say that? Have you no conscience?”

“I don’t want to argue anymore. I have a headache.” I pressed my throbbing temples—my head felt like it was being scraped raw. Arguing with her drained me more than ever.

But Aaliyah wouldn’t let me go. She just kept going on, “Landon, you’re not leaving tonight. If you leave, I’ll take Nathan and leave tomorrow!”

“Stop being unreasonable!” I shouted.

Aaliyah said, “Fine! I’ll go to Benjamin. Let’s see if he thinks soul-bonded mates should live apart forever.”

She was using my father against me again. Rage consumed my reason. I grabbed her and shoved her roughly against the cold wall. Her waist hit the surface with a thud. She grunted in pain, frowning and glaring at me. Looking at her pretty face, all I saw was ugliness.

“I’ll stay.” Finally, I forced the words out through gritted teeth, choosing compromise once more. But I didn’t want to touch her, not even a little. I took off my jacket, went into the bedroom to get a blanket, and laid it out on the living room sofa. I lay down with my back to her.

I could feel the heartbreak and furious disbelief in her pheromones. She stared at my back. Eventually, with a final, cold resolve, she turned and stormed back into the bedroom, slamming the door shut.

This icy, divided distance was the perfect picture of what we had become.

In the middle of the night, my headache worsened. Cold sweat soaked my pajamas. In my hazy, half- conscious state, I opened my mouth and called out the name buried deep in my heart, “Natalie…”

Natalie’s POV:

I took Lily to the Thompson family project dinner. My plan was to make an appearance and find an excuse to leave early, avoiding any unnecessary contact with Victoria.

But shortly after the drinks started, Lily got a phone call. She turned pale and hurriedly left the table. Lily had been distracted, and her pheromones were chaotic all day. Right after Lily left, Samuel followed her

Had I known things would turn out this way, no amount of money, no amount of threats or coer on from Samuel, would ever have made me agree!

After Samuel saved me yesterday, his hand was bleeding heavily. I wanted to take him to the hospital, but he refused outright. He insisted I bandage it myself. He said he felt unwell and that a hospital visit and potential stay would probably cost me even more.

I thought he was just trying to give me a hard time. To keep the peace, I took him to my place to treat him.

I didn’t expect him to use his inflamed wound as an excuse to boss me around all night. He made me take care of him until I was exhausted and fell asleep.

When I woke up, he claimed we had slept together. He even showed me intimate photos of us as was a total bastard!

He called and threatened me to meet him outside during the Thompson family dinner tonight.

I knew Samuel wasn’t actually interested in me. He just wanted to use me against Natalie. I wrestled with what to do all night. But seeing Samuel’s smug face, I decided I had to face this head-on.
