Fake Mate Beta Rises to Alpha Heiress (Natalie) novel Chapter 170

Chapter 170 Lifeless Face

Natalie’s POV:

I thought something might happen at dinner. But surprisingly, the evening went smoothly. The Thompson family members were polite and professional, hardly pressing anyone to drink.

Even Victoria, who was also attending, took the initiative to toast me. She made some polite, standard conversation, and her behavior was impeccable. Her elegant Omega pheromones were calm and steady, showing no trace of her previous obsession.

Maybe I had been too wary? After all, the Thompson family was an ancient werewolf lineage. They would maintain basic decorum. Perhaps Victoria had been temporarily blinded by her feelings before. Now that Leonardo was bonded, maybe she had finally given up.

After the dinner ended, I asked Lily to call the driver. Just as we reached the hotel entrance, Victoria called

out to me.

“Ms. Anderson, could I have a quick word with you? In private?” Her voice was soft, carrying just the right note of melancholy.

I glanced at the anxious Lily beside me and said, “Please wait for the car. I’ll be right there.”

Lily nodded, gave Victoria and me a worried look, and then walked away.

“Ms. Anderson, you’re truly captivating. Not only is your marriage happy, but even your subordinate is so loyal and concerned about you.” Victoria’s words sounded like a compliment, but they felt loaded with something else.

“What did you want to discuss, Ms. Thompson?” I remained polite.

Victoria said, “I know some of my past actions were excessive and disturbed you and Leonardo. I just wanted to sincerely apologize to you, Ms. Anderson. What’s past is past. I hope we can cooperate well going forward and perhaps even become friends.”

Her expression was calm. Her faintly sorrowful eyes didn’t seem malicious. After saying this, she extended

her hand to me.

I shook her hand gently-neither cold nor too warm. “Cooperation is a matter between our companies. We will both handle it professionally.”

She didn’t say more and watched me leave. However, shortly after I walked away, a strong, malicious aura suddenly rushed at me from behind. A glint of steel-an incoming blade-aimed straight for my back.

“Look out!” Victoria’s warning cry rang out.

She threw herself at me, wrapping her arms around me and pulling us both sideways. It happened too fast. I reacted purely on werewolf instinct, spinning away from the lethal strike.

The attacker was a haggard-looking middle-aged male werewolf with frantic eyes. His first attempt failed, and he immediately charged again, slashing with the knife. I had learned combat skills in school. The

muscle memory was still there. I nimbly sidestepped the blade and even tried to grab his wrist.

“Ms. Anderson!” Victoria, whom I had pushed aside, glanced around. Our werewolf guards were rushing over from nearby. Yet, at that moment, she ill-advisedly rushed back, putting herself between the man and

me!

“Victoria!” I shouted.

I hadn’t expected her to intervene again. It completely threw off my rhythm. The attacker twisted his wrist, and the sharp blade instantly sliced Victoria’s wrist.

Blood gushed out, carrying the sweet, metallic scent unique to Omega pheromones. The guards swiftly subdued the man and disarmed him.

Victoria clutched her wrist, curling up in pain. Her face turned deathly pale, beaded with cold sweat. She collapsed to the ground, her life force fading rapidly.

I immediately rushed over, using my handkerchief to tightly tie a makeshift tourniquet above her wound. But the cut was unfortunately deep, seemingly hitting an artery. Blood quickly soaked through the fabric, impossible to stem.

“Natalie, are you okay?” Lily came running back. Seeing the blood on me, her voice shook with fear.

“I’m fine. It’s Ms. Thompson.” I had no time to explain. With Lily’s help, I lifted the nearly unconscious Victoria. We quickly got into the car, heading for the nearest hospital.

In the car, I looked at Victoria’s lifeless face, my mind racing. I was certain that the man who attacked me was the same one who had publicly brought up my past with Landon at the Scott family dinner. Was he sent by Penelope and Samuel? But why did they choose this occasion? Was the target me or Victoria?

Her act of throwing herself to save me seemed unnecessarily heroic. The wound was frighteningly deep. If this were a trick, the cost was too high.

I could feel her life slipping away. That wasn’t something that could be faked. If it were an act, she wouldn’t need to go this far, right?
