Chapter 176 I Promise
Samuel’s POV:

That fool wasn’t just full of hatred for Alexander. He was also one of Penelope’s long-time, obsessive admirers. I only needed to subtly hint that Penelope was struggling because of Natalie, who suddenly appeared and tried to steal the inheritance. Then he willingly became the man meant to be sacrificed.
Whether human or werewolf, unrequited desire festers, driving people to madness.
Now, because of the Victoria incident, the Thompson family would inevitably hold a grudge against. Natalie and Leonardo. Their cooperative channels would naturally lean more towards Penelope and me, Natalie had just made another enemy.
The Moon-Shadowed Pack’s pharmaceutical empire practically controlled this city’s economic lifeline. Offending the Thompson family might seem insignificant on the surface. But I knew very well who stood behind them, and it was a complex web of various foundations. Their power to shape public opinion and their financial influence were absolutely not to be underestimated.
Penelope’s style leaned more toward forceful takeover, like an Alpha charging head-on. I, however, had more patience and more twists and turns in my thinking. I was more like a hunter lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike. For dealing with troublesome “family matters,” my methods were clearly more effective.
After ending the call with Penelope, I opened my computer and saw the encrypted email from the Richardson Group. Since my investment in the name of the Scott Group, those half-dead projects of the Richardson Group had indeed been revitalized quite a bit.
The Richardson family was quite excited, offering up details of their top-tier strategic project. They were eager for the Scott Group to get deeply involved and form a deep bond.
A mocking smile touched my lips.
I only skimmed the project proposal briefly before sending a formal meeting invitation directly to Benjamin.
I was very curious. What interesting expression would Natalie wear when she saw her former “mate,” Landon, appear before her in the company as a representative of the Scott Group’s collaboration? It was truly something to look forward to.
Landon’s POV:
I lay in bed with a fever all day. It wasn’t until evening that the tormenting headache finally eased a little.
Sitting up in the dark bedroom, I could hear my slightly ragged breathing perfectly clearly. A heavy sense of loneliness welled up inside me.
I’d always had these headaches. In the past, whenever one struck, Natalie would stay by my side the whole time, taking care of me. When I woke up, I would open my eyes and see her. Whether she was resting nearby or quietly handling things, just sensing her presence nearby gave me an indescribable sense of
peace.

Suddenly, Natalie’s figure and voice seemed to appear right in front of me, so vividly clear. “Are you feeling better? Do you need to see a doctor? Eat something first, then take your medicine.”
She would always have water and food suitable for a sick werewolf’s stomach ready.
“Natalie.” I frowned, instinctively reaching out to touch the apparition, but my hand met only cold, empty
air.
“Who are you calling?” Aaliyah’s footsteps approached, her voice following. She seemed to have heard my murmur, a hint of barely perceptible wariness in her tone.
“I want some water,” I said, not looking at her. My voice was cold as I suppressed the strange emptiness in my heart.
Aaliyah came in with a dinner tray with a salad, some bacon, and two slices of toast on it. It was a meal she had the maid prepare separately for me. But she was clearly still angry. She just set it down nearby and turned to leave.
“I don’t want any of that.” My voice was hoarse from the fever as I glanced at the unappealing food, appetite gone. “I want stewed venison with mushrooms,” I said.
Every time I was sick, Natalie would personally go to the kitchen and patiently make me broth. The soups she made, whether rich and savory or light and delicate, were always just right and varied and almost never the same. Even an Alpha like me, who disliked soup and bland food, found it satisfying and even looked forward to it.
“But you don’t like soup.” Aaliyah turned around, thinking I was just being difficult on purpose. She tried to soften her tone. “This meal is very light. I had it specially prepared for you. Please, just have a little.”
“I said I have no appetite.” I didn’t even look at the tray again. I threw off the covers, got up, and started changing clothes, ready to leave this suffocating room.
“Where are you going?” Seeing I already had my jacket and car keys, Aaliyah immediately blocked the doorway.
I said, “Back to the office. I’ve wasted a lot of work today.”
“You’re still not well. Can’t it wait until tomorrow?” Aaliyah asked.
“I’m feeling much better.” I didn’t want to argue. I strode forward, intending to walk around her. Aaliyah couldn’t stop me. Nathan, hearing the commotion, ran out from the next room. Aaliyah immediately shot him a look.
“Daddy!” Nathan immediately ran over and hugged my leg. He looked up, his voice sweet and childish. “Daddy, I’ll be good. I promise I’ll listen. Don’t go, okay?”
