“Why are you staring at me?” Natalie finally asked, meeting my eyes in the mirror, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
“Because you’re beautiful,” I answered honestly, my gaze intense. “You’re always beautiful.”
She shot me a shy, sideways glance. That look held a magnetic pull that lured away my final trace of rationality.
When she finally finished drying her hair, got into bed, and softly wished me goodnight, I knew it was going to be a long night.
After the screen went dark, I sat in the darkness for a long time. The heat she’d stirred in me hadn’t faded and had grown stronger. I got up and walked into the bathroom, turning on the cold water.
The icy stream washed over me, but it couldn’t quench the heat in my blood.
I closed my eyes, and her image filled my mind-smiling, shy, trusting, completely unguarded.
I needed to move up my return date.
My mate was waiting.
And every Alpha instinct in me was shouting that it was time to complete the bond.
Natalie’s POV:
Coming out of the shower, I found Leonardo hadn’t hung up. He was still working on documents under the lamplight. His profile was sharp with concentration, handsome as ever. The sharp, aristocratic features of a top-tier werewolf looked especially compelling in the soft light.
I propped my phone on the dressing table and started my skincare routine. I could see him on the screen in the mirror. This quiet companionship made my heart feel incredibly soft.
“Why are you staring at me?” I finally asked.
He said, “Because you’re beautiful. You’re always beautiful.”
His bluntness made my cheeks warm. I gave him a shy, sideways look, only to find his gaze so intense it felt like it could burn through the screen.

When I got into bed and said goodnight, I could hear the tension in his voice. Something unspoken flowed between us-the growing bond between mates, the instinctive pull of two souls calling to each other.
After the screen went dark, I hugged the blanket and turned over.
Leonardo’s body would be broader and warmer than this blanket. As an Alpha, his scent would offer perfect security, like a pack leader guarding the whole group.
I missed his smell-cedar mixed with something cool and metallic, the unique pheromone of a high-ranking werewolf noble. It was strong, steady, deeply comforting.
Matthew’s POV:
Early the next morning. I got the news about Lian. He’d been on a business trip to Mervia, but right before his flight home last night, he’d been detained.
My son, Liam, a pure-blood Alpha raised with the strictest werewolf aristocratic education, being accused of “stealing trade secrets” abroad and held for questioning?
Ridiculous!
I immediately contacted my connections in Mervia. By afternoon, word came back that Liam had offended someone. The person was a high-ranking official in Mervia’s commerce department, with ties to the local werewolf power structure.
“How could Liam possibly offend someone in Mervia?” I asked my assistant, my voice low.
Our family’s business was mainly domestic and in a few werewolf-allied nations. We had almost no deep ties with Mervia—a human-dominated country with many trade barriers against werewolves. Liam was only there because the negotiating partner had chosen the location.
I’m afraid it might be the Marshall family,” my assistant whispered as a reminder. “Mr. Liam Scott and Ms. Marshall called off their engagement a few days ago.”
My expression darkened instantly.
The Marshall family was a werewolf clan that did business in Mervia. They’d carved out a niche in cross-border trade thanks to their special connections with the local human elite. Amelia was their only daughter, a spoiled Omega.
Liam had mentioned ending the engagement. I hadn’t pressed for details. Young people fell out of love, and it was natural. Liam was usually level-headed. I trusted he could handle it.
Clearly, I was wrong.
