Samuel looked at me through drunken eyes, then suddenly reached out and grabbed my wrist.

His palm was burning hot.

I didn’t pull away but let him hold me, leaning in slightly.

“Bunny,” he said, “you’re full of questions tonight.”

That nickname made me sick-Bunny, so flippant, so condescending. To him, I was probably just prey to toy with, his plaything.

“Is that so?” I said. “Maybe it’s because I haven’t talked like this with anyone in a while. It’s getting late. We should head back.”

The smell of liquor and woody cologne wafted from him. I frowned. My breath lightly brushed past his brows, the bridge of his nose, his lips.

“Is this a game of hard-to-get, Lily?” Samuel asked, squinting. “I’m interested in you. You don’t need to test me.”

He paused, thought for a moment, then counted on his fingers and held up three.

“If you’re willing to sleep with me,” he continued, “I could see you for three months. That’s longer than I’ve dated many of those society girls. Think about it.”

His thumb pressed hard against my wrist, forceful and insistent. In werewolf society, this was how Alphas often pursued Betas-no talk of a bond, no vows to the Moon Goddess, just a casual arrangement where each got what they wanted.

I looked up and met his eyes, hazy with drink and curiosity.

The dim lounge light cast uneven shadows across his sharp features.

But in that moment, the way I looked at him was no longer filled with fear or avoidance. Instead, I felt like a hunter, hiding my emotions, sizing up my prey.

“Mr. Scott, you must be joking,” I said, my voice still soft but with a sharp edge he might not miss. “How could I ever be worthy of you? All I want, from where I stand, is for you to leave me alone. And don’t make things difficult for Natalie, either.”

Samuel stared at me for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed, “What if I said I’d try not to give Natalie a hard time from now on?”

He grabbed my arm again, tighter this time. Even if he suspected this was an act, he’d taken the bait-that typical Alpha arrogance, always believing they were in control.

“I’m afraid I can’t just take your word for it, Mr. Scott,” I said, my tone still low and gentle, yet somehow different than before.

“You won’t know unless you try,” he chuckled, his voice roughened by alcohol. “I’m very sincere with my women. From outside the bedroom… to inside it.”

He whispered that last part into my ear, his warm breath hitting my skin. I felt no attraction to Samuel, and his suggestive words only made me uncomfortable.

“Your sincerity… means a three-month fling?” I asked.

That gave him pause. Maybe my reaction wasn’t what he expected-no blushing anger, no coy hesitation, just a calm, almost businesslike tone.

He looked away, studying me carefully. I lowered my head to hide the emotions in my eyes, but made sure he saw my “composed” posture.

“Then how long do you want?” he asked. “Don’t tell me you want to be

my mate.”

His fingers trailed down my arm with casual suggestion. In werewolf high society, that was practically an insult. A low-ranking Beta dreaming of becoming an Alpha’s mate? It was ludicrous.

“I’m just an ordinary person,” I said softly. “I can’t play your games, Mr. Scott. I’m afraid I might end up like that person from your past… shattered to pieces.”

The air in the room froze.

“We’re talking about us. Don’t bring other people into this,” Samuel said, his expression turning cold. All his earlier ease vanished, replaced by icy wariness. He stared at me for a long time, so long I thought my disguise had been completely seen through,

But in the end, he just let go of me, leaned back in his chair, and finished his coffee in one gulp.

“Let’s go,” he said, standing up a bit unsteadily. “You’re taking me home.”

Watching his stumbling figure walk away, I finally took out my phone and stopped the recording. Unfortunately, there was nothing useful on it.

Samuel was still too guarded around me. But that was fine. I had patience.

When hunting, werewolves had plenty of that-lying in wait, biding their time until the prey let its guard down, then striking a fatal blow.

I murmured, “Samuel, I will ruin you. I will take everything you care about away.

“Your fame. Your freedom. Your happiness.

“You will regret every terrible thing you’ve done. You will despair.”

Leonardo’s POV:

Two days later, on the southwestern border of Faeloria, in the mountainous region at dusk, I had finished the day’s work and only managed one call with Natalie around noon.

The drive back to the hotel from the mountains took over an hour. As the sky darkened, worried it was getting too late, I found a quiet spot and video-called her again.

We planned on three calls a day. But lately, our calls and texts were almost nonstop. Whenever I had a free moment, I wanted to hear her voice.

Even Aaron had noticed. Every time I picked up my phone, he knew I was thinking of her again.
