After the work update, I hesitated. Then I told her about Matthew’s contact with Penelope, and how I’d heard about it from Samuel.

I’d had another meal with Samuel in the last two days.

He knew exactly why I was there. With Natalie gone, I didn’t know who to trust. Of course, I was trying to get information from him.

Maybe on purpose, maybe not, but Samuel actually let something slip.

He took a call from Penelope right in front of me. He made it obvious, letting me overhear enough to know Matthew and Penelope were in touch.

I couldn’t tell if Samuel was trying to stir up trouble on purpose. I wanted to tell Natalie right

away.

I couldn’t trust Samuel’s word. But Matthew was now handling a crucial project for Natalie. If something went wrong, she’d be caught off guard.

I warned her to be careful of Matthew. There was silence on the other end for a moment. Then Natalie’s calm voice came through. “Thank you, Lily. But don’t worry. Samuel is probably telling the truth. But right now, it seems Matthew won’t act against me.”

She explained she had set permissions. Matthew’s signing authority only covered her personal portion. Major decisions required all shareholders’ signatures. “I will,” she replied. Then her tone turned serious. “But Lily, you’ve done more than enough for me. Don’t deliberately get close to Samuel for information anymore. He’s dangerous.”

I gave a vague agreement. I knew Samuel was dangerous. But I had things I needed to do.

Hanging up, my feelings were mixed. I felt relief at Natalie’s foresight, but worry for her situation and Leonardo’s injury.
