Fake Mate Beta Rises to Alpha Heiress (Natalie and Landon) novel Chapter 277

Chapter 277 It Smells Terrible

Samuel’s POV:

I’d saved Lily again.

“Mr. Scott, you and Ms. Lane…” Jack began hesitantly, taken aback by my dramatic entrance.

“Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t,” I said quietly, deliberately reaching back to grab Lily’s hand.

She tried to pull away, but I didn’t let her, yanking her to my side.

“Mr. Carter, what exactly was the purpose of asking an employee from our company’s project team to meet you alone?” My question made Jack go pale.

He pressed his lips together before stammering a reply. “I… I just wanted to… get to know Ms. Lane.”

“You’re not a young man. You must have a wife and kids, right?” I scoffed, then glanced at Lily. “Using your position to lure a junior employee out to entertain you. If that scandal got out, I doubt early retirement would be your only problem.”

I had to admit, Lily looked stunning all dressed up. Her delicate features were downcast, her long lashes catching the light. She had a soft, pink glow about her.

Her hair fell past her cheekbone to her collarbone. She smelled good, too-not like perfume, but the clean scent of her hair.

Jack trembled before me like a scared wolf. “Mr. Scott, I was out of line today! My thoughts were filthy. I never should have… You’re right. I have a family. I can’t afford the shame. Please, show some mercy.”

Sweat beads formed on his forehead, and his words were shaky.

I tightened my grip and pushed Lily forward, putting her in front. “Apologize to her. If she forgives you, we’ll talk.”

He immediately said to Lily, “Ms. Lane, I was wrong! I never should have harassed you. I’m sorry. Name anything, anything at all, as compensation. I’ll do whatever to make it right. I’ll never do it again.”

Lily’s POV:

I didn’t want anything to do with a créep like Jack. But with Samuel shoving me forward, I had to play my

part.

I stared at him in silence for a few seconds. “What you did was disgusting,” I finally said. “You’re apologizing to me today, but what about tomorrow? Would you just target some other girl who seems easier to push around?”

‘Jack immediately promised, “I won’t. I’ll change, I swear!”

“I’ll let Mr. Scott handle this. I’m leaving.” With that, I pulled my hand free from Samuel’s grasp walked out.

Samuel’s POV:

After Lily said her piece, I lost all patience for Jack’s whining. I glanced at her, and she happened to look back at me. But her gaze seemed evasive when it met mine.

Watching her walk away, a restless itch started under my skin. I wanted to follow her, but Jack tried to stop me with more apologies.

I’d had enough. I kicked him hard in the knee. He crumpled to the floor in pain, his assistant unable to help him up.

“Hand in your resignation tomorrow,” I said, looking down at him, my voice cold. “Or I’ll make your life difficult.” I tossed the words out impatiently, my usual polite gentleman act gone without a trace. Even a righteous statement sounded like a shakedown coming from me. I had never been a good guy.

Leaving the room, I scanned the hallway, thinking Lily had already left. But she was waiting just around the corner. Moonlight washed over her, making the pale pink dress almost sheer. My throat went dry.

“Waiting for me?” I moved to hug her from behind, but she sidestepped the moment I touched her.

“Mr. Scott, what are you doing here today?” Her voice held wariness and a hint of something else… Unease?

I smiled, “Let’s talk outside.”

She followed behind me, head down, silent and obedient. By the time we exited the hotel, the temperature had dropped. An evening breeze blew, and I saw her shiver. The pale pink dress was strapless and tight. Her slender limbs and bare neck were exposed to the cold.

Knowing she didn’t like me touching her, I forced down the urge to pull her into my arms.

I took off my jacket to drape over her shoulders. I didn’t even know why I was doing it. I wasn’t the “gentleman Alpha” type.

“What are you doing?” Lily dodged again.

“Aren’t you cold?” I asked.

She said softly but sharply, “Yeah, but I don’t need you to do that. It’s better if we keep our boundaries.”

I snorted, that familiar feeling of being challenged rising up again. “Boundaries? Then why were you looking at me like that, giving me hints all night?”

“What hints?” she shot back quickly, though her voice remained soft. “I was just watching you because you kept staring at me. I was worried you’d try something. And… your cologne is too strong. It smells terrible. I

don’t want it on me.”

My expression probably darkened. My cologne smelled terrible? No one had ever said that to me. Most ,women, werewolf or human, praised my choice.
