Chapter 343 Spiritual Counseling
Natalie’s POV:
I murmured, “Leonardo… Leonardo… it must be something important.”
He lifted his head, his lips pressed into a tight line. His eyes held the annoyance of an interruption and unsatisfied desire. His shirt was long gone, the muscles of his abdomen taut. The old scars on his back stood out starkly in the morning light, seeming to burn with his emotion. Finally, and very reluctantly, he let me go.
We both grabbed for our phones. I saw the caller ID on my screen, and my heart skipped a beat. I scrambled out of bed, hurriedly pulling on my clothes.
“It’s Fiona! You need to get dressed!” I called out as I dressed, looking at Leonardo, who was still sitting on the bed, radiating a low, tense energy.
While we were wrapped up in each other, Fiona had called me five times and sent several texts.
She said she was right outside the door.
I quickly smoothed my tangled hair, took a deep breath, and went to open the door.
Outside, Fiona wore an elegant, tailored black and gray tweed skirt suit. Beside her stood a middle-aged male, around fifty, with a calm demeanor, and a younger female assistant in formal attire who looked sharp and professional.
“Natalie, is Leonardo up yet?” Fiona’s face lit up when she saw me. It was nearly 10 a.m.-way later than we usually get up. There had been no sound at all from Leonardo’s side.
“Oh, yes, he’s up.” I nodded quickly, ushering Fiona and the others inside. “Please, come in, Fiona. Leonardo is just freshening up. He’ll be right out.”
I offered an apologetic smile, then looked at the people with Fiona. “Fiona, who are your guests?”
“Let me introduce you,” Fiona said, patting the arm of the middle-aged man. “This is my old friend, Dr. Jayden Peterson. He’s the honorary chairman of the International Association for Research on Psychological and Spiritual Connections, a professor at the top medical school in Mervia, and a consultant for several werewolf-specific wellness centers.”
She turned to the younger woman. “And this is Autumn Ward, Jayden’s research assistant.”
Leonardo’s POV:
I got the message yesterday afternoon. But every moment with Natalie was so absorbing that after replying, I quickly put it out of my mind. All I could think about was her. Finally having a whole day with her, I wanted every minute for us.
I should have scheduled this for after Natalie left.
But Grandmother said Jayden was on a global speaking tour, just passing through Maritime City. It was a rare opportunity. To reassure my family, and for Natalie’s sake, I had to steel myself and face this situation I deeply dreaded.
Jayden wore delicate frameless glasses. He had a calm, composed temperament and was dressed simply and comfortably, with the approachable air of a scholar. After a brief greeting, he still keenly sensed my tension.
Yes, just seeing Jayden brought back a flood of awful childhood memories-of a chilly examination room and being scrutinized by countless probing eyes.
Back then, accompanied by Ryan, I’d seen countless pack doctors. In cold, stark, empty rooms, the evaluations about my “bloodline defect,” “risk of losing control,” and “potential threat” felt like invisible chains tightening around my soul. Any movement brought fear.
“Just relax, dear. Jayden is just here to chat with you like an old friend, to help sort through your thoughts. It’s not a formal session,” Fiona said with a smile, trying to ease the tense atmosphere.
