Missing the morning light meant the afternoon shoot was more time-pressed. The Sanctum team had prepared seven meticulously designed looks for us, each representing important werewolf symbols: the turning seasons, the phases of the moon, the hunter and the guardian, and the wilderness and the hearth.
The outfits were exquisite, full of ancient symbols and fine craftsmanship. Leonardo even had several precious, heirloom wolf-head jewelry pieces brought in for me to wear.
There was a lot to shoot-both still photos and video clips. We worked from the afternoon until nightfall with hardly a break, and still only got through about half of them.
But the team leader was thrilled, saying we were ahead of schedule, mainly because of our chemistry and natural presence in front of the camera. They said we just had to stand in front of those ancient backdrops, and without even trying, we fit right in, like mates who had stepped right out of time.
During breaks, some of the younger assistants and makeup artists gathered around, their eyes full of admiration and well-wishes.
By the time we wrapped, it was late. Feeling bad that everyone had worked through dinner, I suggested treating everyone to a late-night snack. Leonardo agreed, of course. Aaron arranged for us to hit a lively bar street nearby, telling everyone to order what they wanted-Leonardo’s
treat.
I went to a popular bar with a few of the makeup artists. Leonardo came along. We ordered some cocktails, pizza, and tacos. Everyone drank and chatted.
A girl said, “Natalie, Mr. Sanchez, seeing you two makes me believe in soul bonding again!
Another girl asked, “Natalie, how on earth did you ‘tame’ an Alpha like Mr. Sanchez into being so attentive? Share your secrets!”
The question was directed at me. Even Leonardo looked over with a hint of amusement.
“There’s no secret,” I said around a mouthful of food. “Just met the right person at the right time. We just like each other.”
That girl stated, “No way! Natalie, you’re gorgeous. That’s attraction enough!
“And now you’re the Moon-Shadowed Pack heir. You and Mr. Sanchez are perfect, equally matched soulmates!”

Someone said, “If I had a mate like you, I’d be smiling in my sleep! Right, Mr. Sanchez?”

Once everyone loosened up, the girls even dared to joke with Leonardo. He didn’t mind at all. He nodded seriously. “Right. I’m the lucky one.”
Another round of good-natured teasing followed. My face burned. I quickly passed around the just-arrived tacos, especially to Leonardo. He’d barely eaten all day.
Ignoring the others’ looks, I made sure he ate that small piece of taco in his hand all up. I just noticed he ate slower than usual, and his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly a few times.
It was past midnight when we got back to the hotel. My first order of business was making sure Leonardo took his medicine. After his hands were so cold yesterday, I was worried he might be coming down with something, so I added some preventive meds to his usual pills.
He was compliant, taking whatever I gave him without question.
“You didn’t eat much today,” I said, recalling the dinner scene, worry resurfacing. “No appetite?”
“Well, a bit. It’s late. Not really hungry,” he said, avoiding my gaze as he stretched, heading for the bedroom to change. Sensing he was dodging something, I quickly stepped in front of him.
“Have you…” I stood on my toes, cupped his face, and studied him closely. His features were as perfect as ever in the light, but a hint of weariness lingered in his deep eyes.
“Natalie,” he said.
“Have you lost weight?” I asked, tilting my head.
Leonardo paused for a few seconds, his eyes flooding with profound tenderness. The next moment, he suddenly bent down and scooped me up into his arms.
I let out a small gasp.
As if to prove a point, he carried me steadily all the way to the bedroom and placed me gently in the center of the bed. His breathing didn’t even hitch. He leaned over, his warm breath brushing my nose, his voice low. “Want to test me? I’ve still got plenty of strength.”
“Stop.” Thinking of the lingerie he’d packed, I shook my head. “I believe you. I totally believe you.”
But we were both too tired for anything more tonight. Otherwise, we’d oversleep again
tomorrow.
Leonardo had just been teasing. Seeing my startled expression, he immediately softened. He didn’t press further, just caged me with his arms, surrounding me with his scent, then leaned down and brushed a feather-light kiss on my lips.
