**Chapter 38: The Scott Family’s Heiress**
**Natalie’s POV:**
Rebecca was basking in the adoration of the crowd, her eyes glinting with triumph. “Natalie, take a good look around! You’re simply no match for me now. You might want to swallow your pride, eat a slice of humble pie, and apologize until I’m satisfied. Just a single word from me, and you’ll be nothing but a memory in the werewolf community of Maritime City,” she taunted, her voice dripping with disdain.
In the midst of this sycophantic atmosphere, where everyone seemed to be vying for Rebecca’s favor, only Alice stood firm, quickly stepping in front of me like a protective shield. Despite her status as a Beta, her pheromones radiated an unwavering bravery, ready to defend her friend against the onslaught.
“Rebecca, it was you who hurled the harsh words first! Even if Natalie splashed you, it’s only fair retribution. And honestly, we’re all classmates here. Why the snobbish attitude? If anyone should be apologizing, it’s you!” Alice’s voice rang with conviction, her words slicing through the tension like a knife.
Rebecca’s face twisted in anger, and she shot to her feet, her pheromones crackling with a palpable threat as she advanced on Alice. “Alice! Have you lost your mind? Do you even remember why you’re back in town? You’d better think long and hard before you take her side!”
Alice’s expression darkened at Rebecca’s threats. She stole a quick glance at me, her teeth clenched in determination. Then, as if gathering every ounce of her strength, she declared, “Rebecca, I don’t need your ridiculous introduction letter. Just leave Natalie out of this!”
“All this fuss over someone as worthless as Natalie? Are you insane, Alice?” Rebecca scoffed, rolling her eyes in disbelief, her arrogance palpable.
Alice grasped my hand, eager to pull us both away from this sticky situation, but just as we reached the door of the private room, someone casually stepped into our path, blocking our exit.
I gently released Alice’s hand, offering her a reassuring glance before turning my attention to the classmates still trying to mediate.
Seeing the standoff, the organizer of the class reunion—a Beta male werewolf who had been trying to play the diplomat—decided to drop a bombshell. “Natalie, let’s be clear. Crossing Rebecca means crossing the Scott family!”
“The Scott family?” A flicker of surprise flashed across my face, quickly morphing into a broader smile. “You mean the Scott family of the Moon-Shadowed Pack, the wealthiest in Maritime City?”
“Exactly!” He believed I was finally grasping the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing his point with fervor. “Rebecca is practically inseparable from the Scott family’s heiress. A lot of what she flaunts comes straight from that connection!”
His words droned on, laced with a patronizing concern that only fueled my disbelief.
The more he spoke, the more absurd it all seemed. I had no idea I had become best friends with Rebecca, showering her with gifts as if we were inseparable.
I could hardly contain my laughter at the ridiculousness of it all.
Shock and disbelief washed over everyone’s faces, their expressions a mix of astonishment and uncertainty.
My confident declaration, delivered in a calm, unwavering tone, didn’t appear to be an empty boast meant to elevate my pride. They were left wondering if I was being truthful.
This was an extraordinary coincidence! Rebecca knew the Scott family’s heiress, and so did I? The Scott family was at the pinnacle of werewolf society in Maritime City, a name associated with wealth and power, often whispered about in financial news and insider gossip. How could a mere class reunion involve two individuals with ties to such a prestigious family?
Moreover, my claim of being “as familiar to me as my own family” seemed utterly far-fetched!
Before long, Rebecca let out a derisive snort, and the others joined in, their laughter tinged with skepticism and mockery.
“Natalie, do you think we’re all fools? You just casually say you know the Scott family’s heiress, and we’re supposed to take you at your word? If the Scott family is like your family, then why on earth are you even here?” Rebecca shook her head, her disbelief palpable. “You’re just making a complete fool of yourself.”
Someone couldn’t resist sneering, “Natalie, come on! You’re really stretching it with these tall tales. What’s next? Are you going to claim you’re the long-lost Scott family heiress, destined to inherit billions and lead the Moon-Shadowed Pack?”
