Samuel was tired of dealing with petty fights between women. He just wanted the formality over with, but Chloe refused to back down. Any thought of defending her vanished.
At his signal, the bodyguards holding Chloe tried to force her into a bow of apology.
“Let her go.” Just as Chloe’s strength was about to give out, a voice sounded from behind the crowd.
People gasped and automatically parted. Even the’men holding Chloe froze for a second, allowing her to break free.
Liam’s tall, handsome figure came into view. He strode directly toward Chloe.
Flushed and without thinking, Chloe rushed toward him. Samuel’s men moved to grab her, but Liam was faster, opening his arms to shield her behind him.
“What’s this? Does the Scott Group only answer to Samuel now?” Liam’s cold gaze swept over Samuel’s men. His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried far more authority.
The men immediately bowed their heads. “Of course not.”
Aaliyah didn’t know who the newcomer was, but the situation made it clear he was an important figure at the Scott Group. But why would a man like him protect a troublemaking junior employee?
No sooner had Liam shielded Chloe than Lily also entered Samuel’s line of sight.
She had followed Liam in, appearing at the very back of his group.
Her face was flushed, eyes darting anxiously.
Samuel knew immediately-Liam was probably here because of her.
Lily had her ways of getting company news. The moment Samuel went looking for Chloe, word reached her. She realized Samuel was about to cause trouble for Chloe.
Luckily, Liam had just arrived. Lily led him straight here.
Seeing Chloe unharmed, she finally relaxed.
Watching Liam play the hero for Chloe, with Lily looking on almost smugly, Samuel’s anger boiled over.

He stepped forward with a cold laugh. “Liam, since when does someone who holds no position in any Scott Group company get to interfere in Scott Group affairs? Who gave you the right?
“Do you even know who Chloe just offended?”
Liam stood unmoving. In the face of Samuel’s provocation and sarcasm, he merely offered a faint, slight smile.
His expression remained calm, not a trace of anger to be found. His poised demeanor still held a strong presence, making Samuel’s aggressive bluster seem hollow by comparison.
“My authority,” Liam replied quietly, “was granted by the current heir of Moon-Shadowed Pack, Ms. Anderson.”
Chloe’s POV:
Liam’s words were cool and unhurried. Standing behind him, I suddenly felt my heart pounding.
Not because of the tense standoff, but because hearing his voice made me feel secure and happy.
Even after making a fool of myself, I still felt that way.
The Liam I used to know seemed truly different now.
He’d grown up. From a quiet, obedient pup who only knew how to rely on adults, he’d become
a mature Alpha who could stand on his own-strong and brave.
And I felt stuck in place, still that reckless, impulsive troublemaker of a pup.
The
gap between us couldn’t be more obvious.
I knew perfectly well that standing next to him, my pride was gone.
But at that moment, I remembered the words Liam had said to me, over and over, with utter seriousness when we were young. “Chloe, when I grow up, I’ll protect you.”
I said then, “I don’t need your protection. You’re too weak. Good kids just do what their parents say.”
“You don’t have to believe me. I’ll keep my word,” he smiled.
“We’ll see when you’re older.” I nodded.
My thoughts were jolted back by the sudden clash.

Samuel ignored Liam and ordered his men to seize me. Liam grabbed Samuel by his collar.
