“You have no right to restrict Chloe’s personal freedom. I am seeing her today.” Liam’s voice was firm, each word deliberate.

He locked eyes with Michael, his gaze steady and piercing.

Even Michael felt a flicker of unease under that stare.

Liam was, after all, from Moon-Shadowed Pack. Michael didn’t want a direct conflict. Besides, if this blew up, it would only bring shame to the Kelly family.

And it might just give Chloe an opening she could use.

Hannah was also annoyed. She never expected Liam to still be this involved with Chloe.

They might dare to be rough with Chloe, but they couldn’t possibly tie Liam up.

“Mr. Kelly, I should remind you,” Liam said again, sensing Michael’s hesitation, “Chloe isn’t just a Scott Group employee now. She’s also Natalie’s friend.

“Natalie has not only Moon-Shadowed Pack behind her, but also the Silver-Maned Pack. I doubt you want to offend multiple groups over one person.”

Liam had guessed the real reason for the Kelly family’s sudden move against Chloe.

The Kelly family had always been close to Penelope.

But times had changed. The old strategy of playing both sides for safety no longer worked.

After speaking, Liam reached for the doorknob.

The bodyguards tensed, and Eleanor opened her mouth to speak.

But Michael remained silent.

Without waiting for permission, Liam walked straight into Chloe’s bedroom.

His memory of Chloe’s room was still from their university days.

It was still a side bedroom connected to a study.

Not much had changed.

Chloe’s room was starkly simple-just a bed, a desk, and a chair in one corner, and a wardrobe.

Even a decent rental apartment would have more furniture.

Chloe’s POV:

I was standing just inside my bedroom door. Seeing Liam, I felt both relief and worry.

Liam immediately noticed the bruise at the corner of my mouth. The slap mark on my face was still visible.

He frowned, gently lifting my chin. “Who hit you?”

I hesitated, glancing past him at the others, but didn’t answer.

Who else could it be but Michael or Hannah?

Liam took my hand. “Let’s go.”

For a moment, I was too stunned to move.

I might act tough around the Kelly family, always holding my head high, but only I knew how trapped I really felt.

I didn’t have the means to leave, and I’d grown used to enduring.

I struggled with resentment and disgust, but at some point, I’d given up on myself.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want to be rescued-I just didn’t want anyone to see how helpless and worthless I was.

“Come with me.” Seeing my hesitation, Liam looked into my eyes again.

His expression was serious, but his gaze was gentle.

It was precisely that look in his eyes that always made me feel more ashamed.

I instinctively pulled my hand back. “Liam, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. If Mr. Matthew Scott…”

Matthew had forbidden Liam from getting close to me again.

But that was just an excuse. The real problem was me-I was scared.

I was scared that Liam was too kind, that I’d fall back into old habits, unable to resist.

Falling from light back into darkness was the most terrifying thing.

It had taken me years to adjust to life without Liam.

And we could never go back to how we were when we were young. Back then, I at least had some confidence, some naive belief that maybe someday, I could be worthy of standing beside him.

“My father is my father. I am myself. If this isn’t a home, then you don’t need anyone’s permission to leave.” Liam took my hand again.

Even sensing my retreat, he didn’t let go.

Third Person POV:

Michael watched coldly. Seeing the flicker of panic in Chloe’s eyes, he actually took a half-step back, clearing the way.

He warned, “Chloe, don’t forget I’m still your guardian. If you take this step today, you’d better think carefully.”

He knew Chloe too well. She was all bark and no bite-fierce on the outside, but fragile and easily crushed inside.

She couldn’t give up what her mother, Abigail White, had left her, and she didn’t have the strength to escape.

Liam, on the other hand, seemed obedient on the surface but was stubborn to the core.
