Brandon glared at her with a cold sneer. "What? The esteemed Mrs. Blake is stooping to eavesdropping now?"
Bella turned her head away, avoiding his gaze. "Who says I was eavesdropping? What is there to even listen to?
I just came to get some documents signed. Your office was empty, and your secretary mentioned you were in the Chairman's office, so I came here.
The three of you were locked inside talking. You couldn't even hear me knocking. Who knows what you're in there plotting."
Brandon leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "Plotting what? Bella, you'd better hope you can squeeze a massive divorce settlement out of Sebastian Blake.
Otherwise, we'll be plotting how to kick you and your mother out of the Mercer family, leaving you living on the streets and sleeping under a bridge."
Bella stiffened, a furious flush creeping up her neck. "What the hell is that supposed to mean, Brandon?"
Colin shot a cold glance at the scene and walked away without a word. He was going to focus all his energy on the investigation. If they could get Lillian her answers within three days, they'd finally have the leverage to negotiate for her partnership and algorithm.
Brandon didn't have the patience to argue with Bella. He simply brushed past her and walked away.
After a few steps, he paused, noticing she was still frozen in place. "Didn't you need my signature? What are you waiting for?"
Gritting her teeth, Bella followed him into his office.
The moment she closed the door behind her, her expression twisted into a vicious scowl. "Have you lost your mind, Brandon?
It's only my second day on the job! Have I done something to offend you?
Are you a rabid dog? Do you just bite whoever is standing in front of you?"
Ignoring her outburst, Brandon sat down at his desk, carefully putting the dossier away before slowly looking up at her.
Which means the only reason he ever let himself get seduced by a woman like you was because he mistakenly believed Lillian wasn't that capable."
Bella had only come in for a signature. She hadn't expected Brandon to run his mouth like this.
"Enough, Brandon. Just sign it!" she snapped. "I don't have time for this garbage. And don't forget, I'm this company's cash cow right now. If you piss me off, aren't you worried your bottom line will suffer?"
Bella glared at him icily.
Brandon's expression darkened, but his mind raced. He needed to placate her for now and deal with the fallout later.
He would wait and see if they could actually secure her investments before making any drastic moves.
If they couldn't... well, she would have absolutely no place left in the Mercer family.
