"Lillian, you're here. You really came."
Brandon stepped forward excitedly, entirely unable to hide the beaming smile on his face at the sight of his sister.
Lillian's expression remained neutral, offering very little in the way of a smile.
Brandon and Colin were overly attentive, flanking her on both sides to escort her into the room.
However, Ethan completely ignored their dynamic. He stepped right in, casually pushing Brandon aside and taking his spot.
Brandon shot Ethan a glare, noting the man's complete lack of tact. But since Ethan had been present in Lillian's office the last time he sneaked in, he recognized him.
Knowing this man was someone Lillian trusted, Brandon swallowed his complaints and let Ethan flank her.
Even so, as they took their seats, Brandon managed to grab the chair next to Lillian, leaving Colin out of luck.
The other side was already occupied by Ethan.
"Lillian, who are these two...?"
Seeing that Mr. Peregrine and Sienna had no intention of leaving, Brandon finally realized there were extra guests.
Lillian gave them a casual glance and motioned for the two to sit down as well.
Brandon looked at them in shock.
Unfazed, Lillian said smoothly, "My personal doctor and nutritionist. Is there a problem?"
At the mention of a doctor, Brandon remembered that Lillian hadn't fully recovered yet.
He immediately feigned concern. "Lillian, how is your health these days?"
Lillian couldn't care less about his superficial worry.
She replied coolly, "Don't worry, I won't die."
The survival of the Mercer family rested entirely on her shoulders.
Adjusting his mindset, Brandon quickly said, "Lillian, I'm your brother. We share the same blood. Of course I want you to be healthy and well.
It's just that I haven't been able to reach you for so long, and I had no way of checking on you.
Now that we finally have the chance to sit down for a meal, it's only natural for a brother to ask how you're doing."
For a fleeting second, Lillian looked at him with dark amusement. His words were certainly... pretty.
What a shame.
"Is that so? As I recall, we aren't siblings anymore. The blood ties we were born with have been severed by our own hands.
We have no relation to one another now. Mr. Mercer, I don't think there's any need for terms like 'brother' and 'sister' anymore.
