The second Sebastian sat down, Lillian shot out of her chair as if it had caught fire.
Her team was seated at the adjacent table, and she fully intended to swap seats with Ethan to get as far away from Sebastian as possible.
Ethan, who had been watching Lillian like a hawk, saw her visible discomfort. His expression darkened.
If he didn't intervene right now, how the hell was he going to explain this to Leonard later?
It was glaringly obvious that Lillian found Sebastian repulsive. She couldn't even stand breathing the same air as him.
Seeing Lillian standing awkwardly, Ethan immediately marched over.
Before he could speak, Chancellor Whitmore intervened, looking panicked. "Ms. Mercer, is something wrong? Is the chair uncomfortable? I can have it swapped out immediately."
Lillian opened her mouth to speak, but Sebastian let out a smooth, dismissive chuckle. "It's nothing. Ms. Mercer just has a small misunderstanding regarding me. We'll clear the air soon enough."
Lillian's eyes flashed with pure fury. Standing in front of a table full of elite academics and corporate titans, she shut him down with brutal precision. "Watch your words, Mr. Blake. There is no misunderstanding between us. The past is dead and buried."
The second the words left her mouth, Ethan dragged a heavy dining chair over, slammed it right into the narrow gap between Lillian and Sebastian, and casually dropped into it with a bright, charming smile.
"Allow me to introduce myself," Ethan announced loudly to the table. "I'm Ethan Hayes. Now, I know some of you might be thinking a lowly assistant doesn't have the right to sit at the VIP table.
But given the special circumstances today, I'll be sitting here acting as the official representative for the Prescott Group.
As Mr. Hayes of the Prescott Group, I hope none of you find my presence lacking."
The table plunged into a stunned, deafening silence.
The Prescott Group?
While they might not have a massive local footprint in Northwyn, there wasn't a single person at the table who hadn't heard of them.
It was a terrifyingly powerful global conglomerate.
