Throughout the meal, Miles barely spoke. This clearly wasn't his element.
Lillian's gaze swept over him briefly. He was certainly behaving much better than the other day, when he had practically snatched her coffee and flirted with her.
It was obvious that his grandmother's presence was the only thing keeping him in line.
Remembering his reckless arrogance from a few days ago, Lillian merely observed him without commenting.
She had zero interest in entertaining a desperate frat boy trying to climb the social ladder. Calling her 'sweetheart' with that saccharine, artificial tone made him sound like a cheap club promoter.
She was a powerful CEO focused on her empire. Besides, she already had Leonard Prescott by her side—a man who was fiercely intelligent, devastatingly handsome, and intensely devoted.
Leonard was the perfect mix of a dominant protector and a tender, affectionate partner. That was all she could ever want.
As the dinner progressed, Miles remained completely silent.
Lillian didn't bother engaging him.
However, Beatrice felt the silence growing awkward. It was strange that Miles hadn't even properly greeted Lillian.
Finally, she called him out. "Miles, you haven't said a word. Do you have some sort of problem with Lillian?"
Called out by the matriarch, Miles had no choice but to engage.
"Lillian, I just think the food you ordered is incredible. You know how it is. You just can't find food like this overseas."
With that, he flashed a sweet, perfectly crafted smile at her.
Lillian caught the subtle shift immediately. So, he called her 'Lillian' in front of his grandmother, but 'sweetheart' when they were alone. How utterly nauseating.
