"I've lost a lot of blood today, and everything hurts.
Bella, I sacrificed two fingers to partner with you on this. You're not going to keep torturing me, are you?"
"Once this place is cleaned up, I'll have someone look after you," Bella replied coldly.
She handed the severed fingers over to Lucas, instructing him to package them securely with Debbie's ransom note.
Following his earlier plan, he was to hand it off to his delivery driver friend to drop off at Sebastian's office.
Bella tossed him an extra twenty thousand in cash to pay off the friend.
Lucas swore he'd handle it flawlessly.
She then locked herself in the bathroom to shower. Since she practically lived in this presidential suite, she had plenty of clothes in the closet.
She changed into a fresh outfit and threw her blood-soaked clothes at Lucas.
"Go buy an identical rug and replace this one. Scrub every last drop of blood off the floor.
Tonight, take the ruined rug and my clothes somewhere isolated and burn them. Don't leave a single trace. Got it?"
"Don't worry, Miss Ward," Lucas nodded eagerly. "You've practically saved my life with that money. I'll remember this forever.
I'll make sure it's handled perfectly."
Bella's previously harsh tone softened slightly.
"You won't have to serve anyone else after this. Sticking with me might not bring you absolute glory, but I'll make sure you're taken care of.
From now on, just call me Bella."
Lucas's eyes lit up. "Got it, Bella."
Leaving the grisly cleanup entirely in his hands, Bella hurried out of the hotel.
She had done a lot of terrible things in her life, but this was the first time she had ever drawn blood.
She had sliced through flesh and bone.
The sickening resistance of the blade was still echoing in the palms of her hands.
Her eyes snapped open, and she gasped for air. A violent wave of nausea hit her, and she barely stopped herself from throwing up all over the steering wheel.
Swallowing the bile, she slammed her foot on the gas and sped back to the Mercer Estate before she could lose her nerve.
She nearly crashed several times on the drive back. The moment she pulled into the driveway, she sprinted up to her bedroom and locked the door behind her.
Fighting the suffocating nausea, she prayed.
If the billion dollars actually came through, then having blood on her hands would finally be worth it.
