Would $40 million be enough? The question echoed relentlessly in Lucas's mind.
There was over a billion dollars at stake. If he only walked away with $40 million of it, it did seem like a raw deal. Initially, he had thought the $40 million original bribe was a fortune, but thinking it over, what could it really buy? It wasn't enough. Not even close.
Debbie watched his face, immensely satisfied. Her words had hit their mark. Human nature was predictable—greed always won out. Especially for someone like Lucas, a man who survived in the shallow end of the vanity fair, selling his dignity to service wealthy, demanding older women. They treated him like a disposable toy, draining him without a shred of pity.
Thinking of his reality, Lucas felt an overwhelming hunger for the $1.2 billion. If $40 million wasn't enough, what about $400 million? Or more?
$40 million wouldn't last a lifetime of true luxury, but the $400 million Lucas-Debbie bribe? That would change everything. He wouldn't have to worry about a thing. Even a fraction of that would mean he was set for life.
Debbie might not have many talents, but she had a Ph.D. in human greed. She was a greedy woman herself; it took one to know one. A slow smile spread across her face as she took in his hungry expression.
"See? When you really think about it, $40 million just doesn't cut it, does it? But what if I gave you $400 million? Lucas, you're still young. There's a whole world of indulgence out there you haven't even tasted. Once you step into that kind of wealth, you'll realize there's no such thing as 'enough' money. Look at me—what's a billion dollars when you're at The Grand Sapphire Casino? It vanishes in a blink. So, when you have the chance to grab more, don't let it slip away. If you sit on the fence and wait for Bella and me to hand you your cut, you'll get a measly $40 million. Why not use your head and figure out how to take the lion's share?"
Debbie watched him carefully. She wasn't about to blindly trust him just because he looked eager. "If you want that money, you have to stand with me. Without my passwords, you and Bella could scheme all you want, but you won't see a single cent. Do you understand?"
"Of course," Lucas replied eagerly. "As long as I get the $400 million, I'm your guy. Don't worry, I'll be totally loyal. I'd never betray that kind of money."
"We'll see," Debbie scoffed. "You were sleeping with Bella behind my back while you were with me, weren't you? I know how you young men operate."
