Just as Brandon feared, Bella's reputation was now inextricably linked to the Mercer Group. With the public turning on her, the backlash would inevitably crash into the company.
They had to launch extreme damage control immediately.
If they didn't get ahead of the PR disaster, it would be catastrophic.
Sabrina sat frozen, tears pooling in her eyes. Panic set in as she remembered the crushing debts Bella owed to The Blood-Debt Vultures, and the money Sabrina had borrowed from friends to pay the interest. All that money still had to be repaid, and her stomach tied itself into agonizing knots.
Every time the math circled her brain, Sabrina felt her soul leave her body.
How did they lose?
How could they possibly lose everything?
Martin stood up abruptly, shooting Sabrina a glare. "Get up. We're leaving. The press is swarming outside; don't make us more of a public disgrace than we already are."
Bella's defeat was violently absolute.
Even if they had known about The Blake Pre-Nuptial Agreement from the start, they would never have gambled their entire fortune, only to be slaughtered like this.
Sabrina slowly got to her feet. Yes... they needed to run.
The media circus surrounding the trial was unprecedented. She hadn't even dared to check her phone to see the apocalyptic state of the internet.
They had to get home and barricade the doors immediately, or they'd be besieged by reporters just like before.
Sabrina reached over and grabbed Bella's arm. "Bella, it's over. The Presiding Judge has made his ruling. Sitting here won't change anything. Let's just go home and figure something out."
Bella was completely catatonic.
Years of meticulous, agonizing scheming. She had won. She had secured the marriage certificate. She had planned the wedding.
She was inches away from the finish line. How did she lose it all?
Now, it was all for nothing.
