Lillian stared at him blankly.
What kind of twisted logic did Dr. Smith operate on to instantly assume they were breaking up?
"No, what do you mean breaking up? Why would we break up? Don't jinx it, Doctor!"
A low chuckle echoed through the corridor as Leonard stepped into view. "Stop teasing her, Dr. Smith.
I just checked the labs. The remodeled suite is perfect. Thank you for making it happen."
Lillian turned, surprised. "Remodeled suite? Where? I haven't seen it yet."
Leonard reached for her hand. "We'll check it out later. We have something far more important to do right now. I came to pick you up. Let's go take care of the big event first."
Lillian instantly knew what he meant, and a radiant smile bloomed across her face.
She stood up and looked back at Dr. Smith. "When I get back, I'll bring Wedding Favors for the whole team."
Dr. Smith smiled warmly. "A long, healthy life to you both, and a lifetime of happiness."
It was the perfect blessing for them.
Leonard laced his fingers through Lillian's and led her out. He had already pulled the right strings. He drove her straight to the registrar's office, handed over their flawlessly prepared documents, and registered their marriage on the spot.
The entire process was a blur, leaving Lillian slightly dazed.
It wasn't until Leonard wrapped an arm tightly around her waist and pressed a deep, lingering kiss to her lips that reality finally set in.
"Wife."
The sudden shift in title caught Lillian beautifully off guard.
Wife. Yes, they were officially registered. She and Leonard were legally, undeniably married.
They were equals in every sense. There was no need for prenuptial agreements, making the paperwork incredibly straightforward.
There were no walls between them anymore. They had already entrusted their very lives to one another. This piece of paper was simply a declaration of their unwavering resolve to spend eternity together. Nothing else mattered.
"So this is what it feels like," Lillian whispered, breathless. "Does this mean I should call you Husband now?"
