Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 460

Talent like Celia should have been a national asset.

But it seemed her previous employer had probably let her go because of these very issues, forcing her back into the job market.

That was a stroke of luck for Lillian.

She needed someone with exactly her skills, so she was determined to protect Celia, no matter what.

And for some reason, Lillian felt a strange kinship with her. Though their backgrounds and fates were different, she sensed they were alike in some fundamental way.

So, from the bottom of her heart, she wanted to help her. As long as she could do that, nothing else mattered.

The factory manager and Emma were busy settling the group into the conference room.

Lillian, however, used the excuse of needing to go to her office first.

Celia started to slip away, but Lillian called out to her.

“Miss Bennett.”

She stopped in her tracks, hesitant to turn around.

Lillian walked over and stood in front of her, seeing how she kept her head down, fidgeting anxiously.

“I’m going to help you. But first, can you tell me what’s going on?”

Lillian stated her intention to help before even asking for the details.

Did she mean she would help her, no matter the circumstances?

A flicker of light appeared in Celia’s eyes as she looked up at Lillian.

Celia gave a bitter smile. “I guess I’m the only pathetic one, unable to handle my own family problems and always causing trouble for others.”

“You’re not. You’re just purely dedicated to your work. You’re a genuine person. Now, I’ll give you fifteen minutes. Briefly tell me your story. I can't go face them first. If I only listen to them, I won’t get the truth.”

The truth. The truth from her side of the story. For a moment, Celia was so moved she wanted to cry.

Who ever cared about what she had to say?

Celia nodded and followed Lillian into the office.

She poured Lillian a glass of water and began to speak.

“It’s true I come from a poor background. A remote, impoverished area. The people there are lazy, but every family is desperate to have sons.”
