Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 639

Lillian was just about to ask about that.

"Of course, that's fine, Mr. Peregrine. Is there still a chance for my grandmother to wake up?"

The old woman was getting on in years and had been in a vegetative state for nearly three years. Although she was well cared for, Lillian feared something could still go wrong.

Lillian was especially worried about her grandmother's health.

If her grandmother could recover, it would be the best news in the world for Lillian.

And it would make handling many other matters much more convenient.

Perhaps, if her grandmother woke up, the Mercer family could still be saved.

However, Lillian knew she couldn't save the Mercer family, nor did she want to.

Her father and brother had disappointed her time and time again, and she no longer felt any attachment to her family name.

In fact, with the Mercer family in its current state, Lillian almost wished it would all just end.

Maybe if they went back to living ordinary lives, they might regain a little bit of their humanity.

She had long given up hope for anything else. If she had wanted to, she could have brought the Mercer family crashing down long ago.

But with her grandmother still lying unconscious in her hospital bed, she couldn't bring herself to make such a final decision.

So, Lillian wanted to wait for her grandmother to wake up and let her make the final call.

She had to leave some hope for her grandmother, to wait for her to be the one to decide.

When Stephen found out, he called her immediately.

Lillian explained the situation truthfully—that the other two patients in her home had captured Mr. Peregrine's attention, so he was busy tending to them.

"Stephen, you don't need to worry. Doesn't this just prove that I'm in excellent health?

If my condition were poor or serious, wouldn't Mr. Peregrine be by my side at all times?

After all, you were the one who brought him here, so his priority would definitely be my health."

"You've got a point, I can't argue with that, can I? Ugh, you're going to be the end of me. It's like I'm indebted to you."

Lillian couldn't help but laugh. "Thank you for understanding, Stephen."
