Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 650

The Blake family was essentially planning to stand by and watch the Mercers go down in flames.

Martin couldn’t believe it. He had always thought of them as family, but it turned out they had long since stopped considering him an in-law and had already decided to let him fend for himself.

In other words, it was basically impossible for Martin to rely on the Blake family to save him now.

"Mr. Blake, we’re family. Are you really going to watch us go under? Are you just going to let the Mercer family go bankrupt?"

Old Mr. Blake scoffed. "Bankrupt? Martin, you must be joking. The Mercer family is a vast enterprise. How could you possibly go bankrupt? You’re being a bit dramatic. I have faith in your abilities; you’re very experienced when it comes to business. Besides, the assets your mother left behind are more than enough to support your family for two generations. Bankruptcy? That's just ridiculous. Let's not make such jokes."

His words hit Martin like a physical blow.

He was right. The assets his mother had left were indeed top-tier. Before she fell into a vegetative state, she had always maintained their growth. But after she was incapacitated, the market shifted constantly. The biggest problem was that they had focused almost all their energy on their joint ventures with the Blake family and hadn't put much effort into developing their original businesses. That was what had led to their current situation.

Now, their original industries were performing poorly with low returns, while all the significant investments were tied up with the Blake family. With the Blakes suddenly pulling their funding, the problem had become critical. Without the Blake family's capital, life for the Mercers was about to get very difficult.

For the past few years, Martin had completely neglected the businesses his mother had left him.

His face was a twisted mask of conflicting emotions—a pathetic display, really.

Mrs. Blake turned to Martin. "Would you like to stay for a meal? Our lifestyle has changed, you know. We plan everything out these days. We don't usually have guests, so if you'd like to stay, we'd need to know in advance to prepare."

Her words didn't sound like an invitation to prepare a meal, but rather a clear dismissal.

Martin's face darkened as he listened. Staying for lunch at this point would be shamelessly thick-skinned. But he couldn't bring himself to just leave. He had to keep trying, no matter what. This was about money—the very lifeblood of the Mercer Group. It was that important.

"No need for lunch, I've already troubled you both enough. But regardless of whether you still see me as family, in my heart, we will always be connected through Noah. He's a good boy. His mother's faults shouldn't be held against him. The Mercer family is still his maternal family. The boy will still have the protection of his grandfather and his two uncles."

Old Mr. Blake could barely listen anymore. "What Noah needs isn't the protection of his maternal family. What he needs is to stay far away from delusional people like you if he wants any hope for a future. Don't you agree, Martin?"
