The first few items went to other bidders, as Lillian felt no interest in them.
Then, a set of imperial green jade jewelry came up. She noted its impressive quality and raised her paddle.
However, right after her bid added a million to the price, she saw another paddle go up in the front row.
The auctioneer’s voice rang out, “A million-dollar raise from Miss Ward. Do I have any other bids?”
Miss Ward?
It couldn’t be that much of a coincidence. Was it Bella?
Lillian peered toward the front and saw a couple whose silhouettes looked strikingly familiar.
She couldn’t believe she’d run into that wretched pair even at an auction.
Then again, she’d heard their wedding was approaching.
It was only natural for them to be out shopping for jewelry.
She had to admit, though, Bella had a good eye, especially for the expensive pieces.
The starting price for the jade set was already eight million dollars.
After several rounds of bidding, the price had climbed to fifteen million.
Lillian felt that was a reasonable ceiling and placed her bid, only to have Bella counter it immediately.
It seemed this was the price point Bella had been waiting for.
When Lillian had bid, the auctioneer didn't know who she was. She wasn't in her assigned seat and wasn't a regular, so he only acknowledged her paddle number.
With no name announced, Bella hadn't taken any notice of Lillian.
Sitting with Sebastian, she hadn’t even bothered to glance back. After Sebastian had agreed to come, she had contacted the organizers, and the mere mention of his name had secured them VIP seats in the front.
A while ago, ten million would have been nothing to her.
But now, that extra amount stung.
She glanced at Sebastian. Thankfully, he had already promised to pay for whatever she chose.
With that thought, Bella raised her paddle again. “Twenty-five million.”
She was done playing games, tired of the endless one-million-dollar increments. It was a hassle.
Anticipating several more rounds of bidding, she decided to shut it down by jumping the price by seven million.
There. Surely no one would dare to challenge her now.
Even if someone wanted to, they would have to consider that she would just keep raising the price, and they likely didn't have the capital to keep up.
After calling out her bid, a look of predatory triumph settled over Bella’s features..
