“I don't want Sebastian to get the wrong idea if I start fighting over the marital assets that old hag left her. After all, the wedding hasn't happened yet, and I don't want anything to jeopardize it.”
Sabrina nodded in agreement. “You’re right. The most important thing is to get legally married, sign the papers, and solidify your position. Everything else is secondary. We don't care about the things that old woman gave her. Besides, given the circumstances back then, the marital assets from her father and brothers was probably just as impressive. They’re very good at keeping up appearances.”
Bella hummed in agreement. “Exactly. Mom, you need to persuade Dad to take charge and let you handle all of it. You can convert it into a marital assets for me. You’ve seen how things are now. My wedding is going to be so grand, but my family can’t offer much of a marital assets. It will look a little pathetic. We’re marrying into the Blake family, after all. We can't let it be too embarrassing, right?”
Sabrina thought for a moment and nodded decisively. “You’re absolutely right. We’ll do it just as you said. As soon as we get it back, I’ll whisper in his ear and make sure you get everything. You don’t like things Lillian has used, so we’ll just sell them and buy new ones.”
Bella couldn't hide the smile spreading across her face. It was always good to get more assets in her hands before a marriage. It would be a safety net in case anything happened in the future.
With their plan settled, the mother and daughter waited for Saturday to visit the Blake family.
On Friday, Lillian took the initiative to contact the elder Blakes. They were delighted to receive her call.
As it happened, Sebastian was also at the Blake family estate and heard the living room phone ring.
The old man held the phone, turned on the speaker, and spoke in a soft, gentle tone. “Is that you, Lillian? Calling so late, is everything alright?”
Lillian’s meaning was clear. But her words only made the elder Blakes more heartbroken. She was drawing the line between herself and the Blake family even more distinctly. In the future, it seemed there would truly be no relationship left between them. Deep down, they were still hoping to ask Lillian to be a final safety net for the Blake Group, as they had no confidence in Sebastian.
Just as a wave of sadness washed over them, Sebastian strode over before they could say a word.
“Dad, Mom, just agree to it. With you there as witnesses, we can all make a clean break!”
The sorrow that had just welled up in Old Mr. Blake instantly turned to rage. “You damn fool!” he cursed.
