Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 689

Before Sabrina could finish, Mrs. Blake, who already had one foot out the door, suddenly turned and shot a cold glare back at her.

Sabrina’s eyes met the old woman’s, and she froze instantly.

That look was sharp as a knife, laced with a menace that struck deep into her soul.

Bella saw it too and immediately moved to her mother’s side.

She had a clear view of the blatant contempt in Mrs. Blake’s eyes.

It was as if she and her mother were some kind of trash.

Mrs. Blake’s haughty gaze made it clear she looked down on them both.

Bella knew that even though Sebastian had fought hard for the right to marry her, the elder Blakes disapproved of her and did not support their marriage.

Their agreement was purely a reluctant compromise.

After that single warning glance from Mrs. Blake, Sabrina could only watch as they left.

Martin turned to her and said in a low voice, “That’s enough. The wedding is the children’s business. Let them handle it as they see fit.”

Martin left something unsaid: he, too, felt that Sabrina was unworthy of discussing wedding matters with the elder Blakes.

Even though Sabrina had married him, their statuses were still not equal.

And because of that inequality, the Blake family would never respect her.

“But…” Sabrina protested. “But no matter what, a wedding is the biggest event in their lives.

Besides, this is our Bella’s first marriage. We can’t let her be treated unfairly, can we?”

Sebastian overheard their conversation but remained silent.

From the very beginning, even when he had been dead set on marrying her, the thought of a engagement gift had never crossed his mind.

Bella looked at him with hopeful eyes. “Didn’t Lillian get a billion-dollar engagement gift?

Does that mean, in your heart, you think I’m worth less than her?”

It suddenly dawned on Sebastian what was happening. Bella had seen what Lillian had received when she married him.

And now, she wanted to use Lillian’s case as a precedent for her own wedding?

Was she kidding?

However, Sebastian couldn't just say no, as that would sound too harsh.

He simply said, “Do you have any idea what the dowry Lillian took with her today, combined with the part she returned to the Mercer family, is actually worth?”
