But if Bella couldn’t see it for herself, Debbie had no intention of pointing it out.
She certainly couldn’t tell Bella that Old Mr. Blake had despised her back then, and if she hadn't secretly gotten pregnant, she would never have even had the chance to bear his child.
She had seriously underestimated the Blake couple. They were truly in love, a husband and wife united in heart and mind.
Though rare among the wealthy elite, that’s what they were.
Bella was still so naive.
Debbie said, “Bella, there are many things you don’t understand.”
“I only came to Northwyn this time because I heard you two were getting married. I just wanted to see for myself and catch up with old friends.”
“We might not get a chance to all get together like this again in the future.”
“As for Old Mr. Blake, he’s gotten on in years. He’s long been accustomed to having his wife by his side.”
“And I’ve gotten used to being on my own all these years.”
“I’m afraid if we were really put together, we wouldn’t be able to make it work.”
“Besides, as you can see, I have someone in my life now, don’t I? How could I bear to leave him and go back to the old man?”
At the mention of this person, Bella asked, “I didn’t see Lucas when I came over today. Where is he?”
Debbie replied, “His mother is gravely ill. I gave him three days off to go back to his hometown. He’ll be back in a couple of days. That boy is young and handsome, and he takes good care of me, so I should treat him well.”
Bella didn’t say anything more on that subject but proceeded to recount everything that had happened at Sebastian’s villa that day.
Debbie was stunned. “How much? One billion? The Blakes gave Lillian a billion-dollar marriage settlement?”
“Just the bride price alone was a billion dollars? That’s far too much! How is she worth that kind of money?”
Bella had finally found a topic she and Debbie could agree on.
Even if Sebastian looked down on her, he still gave her money for living expenses and retirement.
But it still wasn’t much.
Compared to the billion dollars the Blake family gave Lillian as a bride price, the money Debbie had received from them from the very beginning was pitifully small.
Still, Sebastian didn't treat her poorly. He covered all her expenses for food, clothing, and housing, and always with expensive brands. It wasn't a total loss for having raised him.
Bella continued, picking up on Debbie’s sentiment. “Exactly. Does she deserve it? To think she could get so much.”
Debbie’s mind worked quickly, and she smiled. “Bella, your wedding with Sebastian is on the agenda now, so it’s time to discuss the bride price and all that.”
“Since there’s Lillian’s example, shouldn’t the Blake family give you a billion dollars too?”
“If you ask me, you’re so much better than that Lillian. A billion is too little. They should at least double it to be worthy of your intelligence and status.”
