Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 700

Halfridge Villas.

Leonard had already made arrangements to receive Stephen.

This man now had a deep working relationship with Lillian.

Privately, he could also be considered part of Lillian's family.

Leonard had observed the Lancaster family's behavior and was quite satisfied with them.

As her family, they were far more satisfactory to Leonard than that bunch from the Mercer family.

At least, they genuinely cared for Lillian and put effort into their relationship with her.

"Sir, are you nervous?" Ethan asked, standing beside Leonard. He watched as his boss occasionally glanced toward the gate, wondering if the wait was making him anxious.

Leonard shot him a look. "If you don't have anything useful to say, then shut up. No one will think you're mute."

Nervous?

What did he have to be nervous about?

The Lancaster family was indeed decent, but he and Lillian were true soulmates.

They shared every drop of blood in their bodies; they were the closest people to each other.

Today wasn't about Lillian's family coming to inspect him. It was about him inspecting them to see if they were qualified to be Lillian's family.

He had only glanced outside a few more times than usual, and this damn Ethan was already overthinking things.

Acting as if he were the only one who had to have the last word.

Ethan took a step back just as Lillian's car pulled up.

He immediately stepped forward again. "It seems Ms. Mercer's business went smoothly."

Smoothly?

That was only because Lillian was smart enough.

His eyes fell on Leonard, sizing him up.

His sister had said that her future husband's health wasn't great, and he certainly looked the part.

Assessing him with a critical male eye, Stephen’s first impression of Leonard was that he looked strikingly pale and fragile.

He really did look to be in poor health.

However, this pale, frail, and rather lean man possessed a natural aura of authority.

He was young, too, even younger than his sister. Where did he get that kind of presence?

It was almost like what he'd felt from Old Mr. Blake earlier today. And this aura, likely toned down because he was meeting him as part of Lillian's family, was still palpable.

Stephen couldn't help but ask, "Sis, this Leonard guy... he seems like more than he lets on."

Lillian smiled. "We're family. What's with all this 'simple' or 'complicated' talk? Once you spend more time with him, you'll see he's pretty easy to get along with."
